Pec edges O’s, blows out M-A

BLANCHARDVILLE — Pecatonica used a six-run sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie en route to a 10-6 win over Argyle April 8.

Griffin Gordon led off the bottom of the sixth with a walk against fresh Argyle reliever Mitchell Flannery. Hunter Enloe and Colton Schraepfer then walked back-to-back and Lane Busser was hit by a pitch with bases loaded to break the tie.

Jake Ploessl came on in relief and on an 0-1 count Carter Ruegsegger hit a two-run double to left. Everett Johnson then hit a sacrifice fly to score Busser and made it 8-0. Ruegsegger scored a batter later when Zander Brunker smoked a ball to shortstop Gavin Johnson. Pecatonica’s final run came on a single to left by Dakota Doescher, with Brunker scoring before Doescher was thrown out trying to advance to second on the throw.

“It was a back and forth game,” Pecatonica coach Jim Strommen said. “We got clutch hits in the sixth and took advantage of some walks as well.”

Ruegsegger started on the mound, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits in five innings and 70 pitches. He struck out eight. Lane Busser pitched 1.1 innings of relief and notched the win, allowing two runs to score. Colton Schraepfer closed out the seventh.

Miken Godfrey got the no-decision on the mound for Argyle, tossing 97 pitches in five innings of work, striking out six and allowing four runs on six hits, two walks and two hit batters.

At the dish, Schraepfer was 2 for 3 with a walk, RBI and two runs and Johnson went 2 for 2 with two RBIs.


Pecatonica 19, Monticello-Albany 1

MONTICELLO — Enloe got the win on the mound, allowing one run on one hit and two walks while striking out four in three innings April 9. Busser closed the door in the final two innings for Pecatonica.

Schraepfer and Ruegsegger each had three hits and a double for the Vikings, which collected 10 hits as a team and walked 13 times. Brunker hit a triple.

Devin Holtz had two walks for the Ponies. Monticello-Albany used five pitchers in the game and the Ponies committed four errors in the field.


Barneveld 5, Argyle 0

BARNEVELD — Flannery took the loss on the hill, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks in five innings of work April 9. He allowed a lead-off walk to Seth Sullivan in the bottom of the sixth with the game tied at 2. 

Johnson entered in relief and allowed back-to-back walks before Ploessl entered and Trey Gordon ripped a 2-RBI triple to center, with Spencer Sullivan getting thrown out at home. Barneveld added a run on the next pitch, with Matt Fahey singling to left.

The Orioles scored runs in both the first and second innings to stake themselves to a 2-0 lead, but Reece Peterson bombed a two-run homer in the third to tie the score.

Gavin Johnson finished 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI for Argyle.


Clinton 2, Brodhead-Juda 0

CLINTON — The Cardinals had just two hits and no walks and struck out seven times, but they nearly staged an early season win over the Cougars April 9.

Conner Green took the loss on the hill, tossing five innings. Quinton Kammerer threw a scoreless sixth for Brodhead-Juda.

Marco Bueno and Payton Johnson each had hits for the Cardinals, while Jake Miller reached twice on bean balls.

Drew Holloway got the win on the mound for Clinton.


Parkview 8, Brodhead-Juda 7

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals staged a three-run bottom of the seventh, but the rally came up one run short April 8.

Bueno was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBIs, while Cade Walker was 2 for 4 with a double and two runs, and Cody Malcook finished 2 for 3 with two runs from the nine-hole.

Walker threw 2.2 innings, giving up three runs on two hits and five walks. Kammerer tossed 81 pitches in 4.1 innings of relief, striking out three and allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks.


Riverdale 7, Darlington 6

DARLINGTON — Riverdale rallied with two unearned runs in the seventh to topple the Redbirds April 9.

After falling behind 5-0 in the third, Darlington rallied with a four-run bottom of the third. A run in the fourth tied it, and the Redbirds took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the sixth.

Preston Banfield allowed five runs (one earned) in 5.1 innings for Darlington, striking out three while allowing four hits and four walks. Barry Schliem took the loss on the hill, allowing two unearned runs in 1.2 innings on two hits.

Nick Andrae was the star at the dish, going 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. Kolbe Ubersox was 3 for 4, with four RBIs, and Braden Davis was 2 for 4 for Darlington. The Redbirds finished the game with eight hits, five walks, a hit batter and 12 strikeouts.


Belleville 7, New Glarus 6

BELLEVILLE — The Wildcats walked it off against the Knights April 9, with Dylan Gratz roping a double to center to score Luke Kelly with one out in the bottom of the seventh off reliever Carter Siegenthaler.

New Glarus scored five runs in the top of the first inning, with only one earned. The Knights added another run in the third to make it 6-1, but the Wildcats kept crawling back. Belleville scored three runs in the third, and one in each the fourth and sixth to tie it at 6.

Austin Fahey got the win on the mound for Belleville, striking out seven in seven innings. Peyton Mendelski started on the hill for New Glarus, allowing four runs (one earned) in 2.2 innings. Ben Melvin and Siegenthaler each relieved for the Knights.


Mineral Point 5, New Glarus 1

MINERAL POINT — The Knights hung tough with one of the state’s best teams April 8. Mineral Point reached the state tournament a season ago and scored in just three innings against four New Glarus pitchers.

The Pointers scored one run in the second, two in the third and two in the fifth. Conner Siegenthaler scored New Glarus’ only run on a hit by Carter Siegenthaler.

Holden Latsch got the start on the mound and went three innings for the Knights, allowing just one earned run. Cale Weeden pitched a scoreless fourth, and Eli Zimmerman allowed twin runs in the fifth. Ben Melvin pitched a scoreless sixth.
