MONTICELLO — The Orioles out-hustled, out-rebounded and played more physical than the Ponies in a 60-40 Six Rivers East Conference win on Thursday, Jan. 26.
“We thought we had a physical advantage,” Argyle head coach Jesse Halvorsen said. “If we were willing to, we could get it into the post and find those guys in there. I thought they did a good job of taking contact and finishing. It put a lot of pressure on them [Monticello] as a team.”
The Orioles jumped out to an 8-0 lead after Will Helfvogt took a charge from Ryer Indergand. Ike Waage started the scoring with a bucket, followed by back-to-back points from Helfvogt. Mason McNett then went to the line, where he made both of his free throws.
Despite getting open shots, Monticello didn’t score until four and half minutes into the game with a basket from Indergand. He scored again 30 seconds later to cut the Orioles’ lead to 8-4.
