NGM scores first win; Cards lose first game

NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights picked up their first win of the season, 32-7, against the Big Foot Chiefs, a Capitol Conference opponent, on Homecoming Sept. 30.

New Glarus-Monticello (1-6, 1-4) quarterback Max Marty was a large part of the offense in the first half, with a passing and rushing touchdown each. Lawrence Vasquez also scored on a six-yard rush, as the Glarner Knights led 19-0 at the half.

Neither team scored in the third quarter, making for a big fourth.

Marty connected with AC Strok just four seconds into the quarter for yet another touchdown. For their final six points of the game, Emery Johnson ran three yards to the endzone. It was Johnson’s first game back since breaking his collarbone in a scrimmage with Monroe.

With just 52 seconds left in the game, Big Foot (1-6, 0-5) ran for a touchdown and successfully kicked an extra point.

Marty was 15-for-20 with 249 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, he had 14 carries for 96 yards and a touchdown. Aside from Marty, Vasquez was the next leading rusher with 14 carries for 83 yards. Strok led all receivers with three catches for 95 yards and one touchdown.

NG-Monticello will play Lodi (6-1, 4-1) next on Oct. 7. 


BSMS 48, Pecatonica-Argyle 0

ARGYLE — The Vikings fell behind 28-0 after the first quarter and 42-0 by halftime against the Knights on Oct. 1 at Argyle’s Homecoming.

Jacob Duerr was 8-for-11 for 158 and two TDs for Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg (5-2, 4-1 Six Rivers). Nate Lawrence led BSMS with 114 rushing yards on 15 carries with two TDs, and added two more scores and 103 yards receiving on five catches. Nevada Sandlin had two TDs and 75 yards rushing on seven totes. BSMS had 268 yards rushing and 426 yards of total offense. 

The Vikings (0-7, 0-5) travel to Hazel Green in Week 8 to face Southwestern/East Dubuque (3-4, 1-4). Neither team is eligible for the postseason.


POTOSI-CASSVILLE 42, BLACK HAWK-WARREN 18 

POTOSI — Despite a 12-point second quarter, the Warriors fell to the Chieftains, dipping below .500 in the Six Rivers Conference on Sept. 30. 

After an opening rushing touchdown by Potosi-Cassville (6-1, 4-1), Black Hawk-Warren (4-3, 2-3) responded with a touchdown of their own by Reed McNutt to tie the game at six. With just 12 seconds remaining in the quarter, McNutt connected with Andrew Figi for another touchdown. 

Although the Warriors trailed by just six points at half, the Chieftains came out of the locker room ready to roll in the second half. Potosi-Cassville outscored Black Hawk-Warren 24-6 in the second half, led by Raz Okey, Sam Udelhofen and Eli Adams.  

Lucas Milz led the Warriors on the ground with 72 yards on 16 carries. He also had one reception for 12 yards with one interception. Despite just two carries, Owen Seffrood averaged 15.5 yards. At the helm, McNutt threw for 46 yards with one touchdown. 

Black Hawk-Warren will travel to Shullsburg on Oct. 7 for a game against Benton/Scales Mound/Shullsburg. 

 

FENNIMORE 48, PARKVIEW-ALBANY 8

FENNIMORE — The Vikings still seek their first win of the season, as they fell to Eagles on Sept. 30. 

Fennimore (2-5, 1-4) got out to a 42-0 lead in the first half. Parkview-Albany (0-7, 0-5) managed just one score in the fourth quarter. The Vikings were officially eliminated from playoff contention with the loss.

Offensively, the Eagles put up 409 yards, 277 of passing and 132 of rushing. Tristan Steldt was 13-for-23 with 243 yards, arguably his best performance of the season. Of the seven players to record rushing yards, Max Miles led them all with 66 yards on five carries. In the air, Amryn Nutter caught six passes for 150 yards.  

In Week 8, the Vikings host Mineral Point, which is currently third in conference with a 2-3 record.  

 

ADAMS-FRIENDSHIP 25, BRODHEAD-JUDA 13

ADAMS — In a conference crossover battle of unbeaten teams, the unranked Green Devils came out on top against the No. 3 Cardinals.  

Adams-Friendship (7-0, 5-0 South Central) relied on Aidan Livingston for both passing and rushing yards. In the air, he was 3-for-8 for 83 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, he had six carries for 96 yards and another touchdown. Keyvon Holloway was another key offensive player, as his only pass was caught, and he rushed for 44 yards. Lincoln Smith, who had 11 rushing yards, also recorded 35 receiving yards. 

No stats were reported for Brodhead-Juda (6-1, 4-1). The Cardinals face another tough opponent next week in conference leader Prairie du Chien. PDC is undefeated in the SWC at 5-0 and have scored 208 points while giving up just 71.
