BELLEVILLE — Despite flood-like conditions, New Glarus-Monticello girls cross country won its fifth straight Capitol South Conference title on Saturday, Oct. 14.
“Being a first-year head coach that is the most nerve-wracking part — having to put the talent where it needs to be and the team in a good place before the race,” NGM head coach Dennis Haak said. “The ladies absolutely killed it out there.”
All seven of the Lady Knight runners earned all-conference accolades, finishing in the top 11. NGM is currently ranked No. 11 in Division 2.
“We really feed off each other’s energy,” senior Lily Maynard said. “We talk to each other during races, too. If we pass someone, we try to pull them along with us.”
With Carter Scholey’s first-place finish, Belleville boys also claimed the Capitol South Conference title. In all eight of the Wildcats’ meets, Scholey has finished in the top three — regardless of division.
