LAKE MILLS — Payton Schneider’s 2-point basket with 5 seconds left in overtime gave New Glarus a 66-64 win over Lake Mills on Tuesday, Nov. 28. Schneider stole the inbounds pass and scored in the paint to secure the victory for the No. 3-ranked Knights.

In fact, New Glarus trailed in the final seconds, but a pair of free throws from Lindsey Schadewalt and stout defense from the Knights sent the game to overtime.

Schadewalt led all scorers with 31 points. Elle Lancaster and Emma Martinson also finished in double figures with 10 points each. Lake Mills, defending Capitol North champions, received 24 of its points from Sydney Burling. Another 16 came from Emily Wollin.

ALBANY-MONTICELLO 69, BELMONT 56

BELMONT — In a battle of ranked Division 5 teams, the Comets used a 41-point second half to defeat the Braves on Monday, Nov. 27.

Albany-Monticello, ranked No. 2 in Division 5, got 29 points from Alana Durtschi. The senior was 7-for-8 from the free-throw line with four 3-pointers and another eight baskets from the field. Molly Olson scored in double figures with 13 points. As a team, the Comets made seven 3-pointers and were 12-for-14 from the charity stripe.

The Braves had three players in double figures, led by Morgan Freeman with 16 points.

ARGYLE-PECATONICA 73, ABUNDANT LIFE-SA 39

MADISON — With three players in double digits, the No. 7-ranked Vikings defeated Abundant Life-St. Ambrose in a nonconference game on Monday, Nov. 27.

Kylie Butler led all scorers with 30 points. She was 2-for-2 from the free-throw line with four 3-pointers and another eight baskets. Brooke Wellnitz was the second highest scorer with 17 points, followed by Avari Steiner with 13 points. Steiner sank three 3-pointers.

Emma Belter led the Challengers with a double-double — 12 points and 15 rebounds.

DARLINGTON 44, LANCASTER 38

LANCASTER — The Redbirds played aggressive basketball en route to a nonconference victory over the Flying Arrows on Monday, Nov. 27.

Darlington drew 26 fouls and went to the free-throw line 41 times. Although the Redbirds made just 21 of those shots, it was more free throws than the Flying Arrows even attempted (15).

Aubrey McCarthy scored seven of her 13 points from the charity stripe while also grabbing a team-best seven rebounds. Catie Hartwig tallied the only 3-pointer for Darlington, finishing with five points.

Jessica Morgan led Lancaster with nine points and eight rebounds.

DODGEVILLE 54, BLACK HAWK 35

DODGEVILLE — Despite holding the Dodgers’ top scorers below their averages, the Warriors fell in a nonconference game on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Marley Busch and Lily Wiegel, both SWC all-conference players last season, scored a combined 14 points. However, McKenna Reilly made up for the offensive lull with 22 points of her own. 

“It was not our night,” Black Hawk coach Steve Herbst said. “There were too many missed lay-ups that we couldn’t recover from. We held their top two girls below their average but (Reilly) stepped up for them and played lights out. If we make our lay-ups it’s much closer.”

Hailey Wellnitz led Black Hawk with nine points and seven rebounds. Freshman Maddy Place scored eight points with a team-best nine rebounds. Mya Milz added eight points and eight rebounds. 

TURNER 65, JUDA 13

JUDA — With a 35-6 lead at halftime, the Trojans cruised to a nonconference win over the Panthers on Tuesday, Nov. 28. Anna Bartels led Juda with five points. The remaining scorers — Phoenix Homan, Briliey Swedlund, Katie Brooks and Lavinia Rufer — had two points each.

In other local basketball, Brodhead fell to Deerfield 45-42.
