MONROE — The Monroe High School Wrestling Team held their end-of-season banquet on March 6 at the high school. A great evening of fellowship and reflecting on the season. 

Six Monroe wrestlers received awards for their accomplishments this season. Receiving awards were: Brady Schuh (145 pounds), Most Team Points (275.5), Most Takedowns (77), Steve Grossen Memorial Award, Team Captain, Al Witt Memorial Award, Most Dedicated, Jim Mayer Memorial Award, Most Valuable Wrestler, and 1st Team All-Conference. Isaac Bunker (285), Most Falls (28). Christian Schuh (132), Most Improved Wrestler and 1st Team All-Conference. Ryan Holst (152), Steve Grossen Memorial Award, Team Captain. Garret Voegeli (120), Scott Sorenson Memorial Award, Most Inspirational and Honorable Mention All Conference, Carson Menehan (126), Can’t Pin Me.

MWC sent 26 to Feb. 27 Parkview Viking Youth Wrestling Tournament

The season is starting to wind down but that isn’t stopping 26 MWC wrestlers from competing at the Parkview Viking Youth Wrestling Tournament on Feb. 27.  

Results from the tournament were: In the 2015-17 brackets - Xavier Folk (42-47lbs) 1st; Case Duff (49-51lbs) 3rd; and Dexter Ward (53-54lbs) 4th. In the 2013-14 brackets - Dixon Starr (48-51lbs) 1st; Colton Ladwig (48-51lbs) 2nd; Briggs Engelkens (56-57lbs) 4thl; Kieran Ellingson (57-59lbs) 3rd; Charles Pfeifer (63-63lbs) 3rd; Kye Norder (63-68lbs) 4th; Ella Duff (65-70lbs) 4th; Decklin Doran (72-77lbs) 4th; and Jaxon Gobeli (75-80lbs) 4th. In the 2011-12 brackets - Isiah Folk (62-65lbs) 3rd; Forrest Treuthardt (64-70lbs) 2nd; Blaine Fletcher (64-70lbs) 1st; Cooper Wolff (65-69lbs) 4th; Camden Wolff (65-69lbs) 3rd; Briggs Hoesly (76-83lbs) 3rd; Armin Grunder (83-89lbs) 4th; and Evan Johnson (85-89lbs) 4th. In the 2009-10 brackets - Gage Ostby (69-72lbs) 4th; Kraig Walter (100-102lbs) 3rd; Oliver Helland (100-103lbs) 2nd; Ayden Folk (106-116lbs) 3rd; and Joah Wellman (155-170lbs) 2nd. In the 2007-08 bracket - Bradley Holst (135-150lbs) 5th.
