EDGERTON — With a 47-6 win over Edgerton on Friday, Sept. 29, Monroe earned at least a share of the Rock Valley Conference title. Since switching over from the Badger to the Rock Valley four years ago, the Cheesemakers have not lost a game to conference opponents.

Against Edgerton Monroe scored in each quarter and used five different backs to get it done. Lane Meier opened the game with a 1-yard TD run, and eight minutes later, Ben Gatdula added on with a 14-yard gain. Kaden Kuester scored twice in the second quarter, totaling 18-yards. Gatdula’s 14-yard TD rush in the third quarter gave Monroe a 33-0 lead. In the fourth quarter, Brady Wyss and Cameron Newcomer also found the end zone. On extra points, Wes Saunders went 5-for-6.

Four other players contributed to the run game, where the Cheesemakers accumulated 315 yards. In the air, Ethan Rosenstiel finished 2-for-3 with 14 yards. Meier and Ryan Mathiason had one catch each.

Monroe improves to 5-0 in the RVC and 5-2 overall. With East Troy’s forfeit next week, the Cheesemakers will take a 6-0 record into Week 9 against sub-.500 Whitewater. Evansville and McFarland, tied for second in conference at 4-1, would need to win out and hope for Monroe to lose to Whiteater to claim a share of the title. Whitewater lost to Evansville 42-0 in Week 7.

BSMS 36, PECATONICA-ARGYLE 32

SHULLSBURG — The Vikings nearly pulled off the comeback — scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter — but the Knights held on for a Week 7 victory.

Max Godfrey finished 16-for-31 passing for 214 yards with four TDs and three INTs. Ike Waage caught nine passes totaling 87 yards, including two TDs. Tyler McKeon and Nathan Burkeland also caught TD passes. On the ground, Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg limited Pecatonica-Argyle to 42 yards, led by Mason McNett and Talen Havens with 24 yards each.

Defensively, McKeon and Waage recorded two interceptions each. Five players tallied 10 or more tackles — Levi Krebs (17), Charles Anderson (11), McKeon (14), Burkeland (16) and Havens (10).

NB EISENHOWER 28, NG-MONTICELLO 21

NEW BERLIN — The Knights let a 14-6 halftime lead slip away in a nonconference game on Friday, Sept. 29. NGM was originally slated to play Capitol Conference opponent Big Foot, but the Chiefs forfeited due to injury and low numbers.

Max Marty finished 12-for-20 passing for 178 yards with one TD and two INT. Cade Thayer tallied 60 yards on two receptions, including the lone TD pass. On the ground, Lawrence Vasquez led with 55 yards on seven carries with one TD.

At 5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference, NGM is the definition of a bubble team. The Big Foot forfeit benefited the Knights in conference, where an above .500 record guarantees a spot in playoffs. However, the loss to New Berlin Eisenhower hurts overall standings, which comes into play if a team doesn’t have a favorable conference record.
