PORTAGE — Monroe improved to 6-0 on the season with a 6-1 win over Portage in its first conference dual on Tuesday, April 18.

The only match the Cheesemakers lost was No. 1 singles, where Matthew Setterstrom pushed former state-qualifier Owen Benck to three sets.

“Matthew played Owen Benck, who was a returning state qualifier, and went neck and neck in a fantastic match,” Monroe head coach Matt Bordner said.  “It was likely a nice preview of two players that could see each other at the state tournament at the end of the season. It was a match that came down to a few points, but overall, I was really happy with how Matthew played. I think it will be a nice confidence booster for the rest of the season.”
