JEFFERSON — With its 27-10 win over Jefferson on Friday, Sept. 15, Monroe sits alone at the top of the Rock Valley Conference standings at 3-0. Including its win by forfeit over East Troy, Monroe has four conference victories on the season, which is enough to qualify for the playoffs.

Brady Wyss put the Cheesemakers on the board with a 14-yard TD run in the first quarter. With Wes Saunders’s extra point, Monroe took a 7-0 lead.

Jefferson looked to tie the game up, but Monroe’s defense stopped the Eagles short, forcing a 33-yard field goal from Lucas Frank. The two teams traded touchdowns to end the first half, as Kaden Kuester ran 46 yards to the end zone, while Drew Peterson countered with a 2-yard run.

After a scoreless third quarter, Keegan Dahmen took an interception 30 yards to the end zone for a pick-6. Saunders extra point gave Monroe a 21-10 lead. Wyss capped the game with a 17-yard rushing TD.

Jefferson bested Monroe in total offensive yards (230-191) and time of possession (22:33-19:44) but Dahmen and Wyss’s interceptions proved to be the difference.

Monroe used four backs for 166 rushing yards — Kuester (6 att, 66 yds, 1 TD), Wyss (4 att, 42 yds, 2 TDs), Lane Meier (11 att, 41 yds) and Ben Gatdula (8 att, 17 yds). At quarterback, Ethan Rosenstiel was 2-for-4 passing for 24 yards. His completions were to Ryan Mathiason and Meier.
