MUKWONAGO — In its weekend trip to Mukwonago, Monroe came away 2-2 with wins over Lake Mills and Menomonee Falls. More importantly, the Cheesemakers picked up their fifth team win of the season, which is the most since 2019 — and it’s only August.

“Overall, the weekend was a big success, as we picked up our fourth and fifth team wins, which puts us with the most team wins for our girls tennis team since 2019 already,” Monroe head coach Matt Bordner said. “This team continues to improve and gets after it in matches. We have a lot to improve on from a technical standpoint, but I’m really happy with the effort and willingness to learn from this group as we shift into our conference schedule coming up.”

Bordner was happy to see many pieces in his lineup click and get into a groove, namely his underclassmen. Adeline Eckerman, Ryann Dahlman and doubles duo Layla Pallesen and Rylee Svendsen contributed points in both wins.

“It was awesome to see Ryann step up at No. 4 singles and Rylee and Layla at No. 3 doubles,” Bordner said. “We have some really promising young players on this team that showed some real grit in these matches.”

Monroe opened its conference season on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at Big Foot. Results from the match can be found in the Saturday, Sept. 2 edition of the Monroe Times.
