BROOKFIELD — Alyssa Knauf had four goals and sister Haley had a hat trick as the Rock County Fury co-op opened the season on a high note.
“It was a good start to the season for us,” coach Luke Steurer said. “The girls have been working hard in practices on some of the changes we made to our system. They went out from the start of the game with a fast pace and set the tone.”
Sara Loerke opened the scoring for the Fury, scoring top shelf from the point on an assist from Sara Nerad just over five minutes into the game. Alyssa Knauf made it 2-0 less than a minute later and Haley Knauf added a third goal in the opening frame with just over a minute to play.
In the second period, Haley made it 4-0 before Alyssa snapped home two more goals, reaching her hat trick halfway through the frame. Haley scored her third goal of the game unassisted with under three minutes to play in the period. The Glacier lit the lamp 40 seconds later, shorthanded, for their lone score in the game.
In the third, Alyssa Knauf made it 8-1 four minutes into the frame. Nerad and freshmen Claudia Boehlke and Amery Stuckery added goals before the final horn.
Finishing with assists for the Fury included Nerad (2), Haley Knauf (3), Anna Malone (2), Loerke (3), Anika Einbeck (3), Samantha Wells (1), Lexi Cooper and Sarah Edler (1).
“We were able to stay focused the whole game and play hard from start to finish. Our defenseman have adjusted well and did a great job of moving the puck up the ice and joining in on the rushes to help create more offense,” Steurer said.
