NEW GLARUS — The Knights dropped a four-set match to Poynette March 18, 22-25, 22-25, 25-17, 18-25.
Grace Nommensen, a sophomore, led New Glarus with 14 kills, 14 assists and 4 aces, while junior Emma Marty had 5 kills and 9 digs. A trio of freshman also played major roles in the match for the Knights: Lindsey Schadewalt finished with 16 assists and 4 kills, Carrah Bainbridge had 13 digs and Veronica Tollakson chimed in with 4 kills and 4 aces.
New Glarus was scheduled to be back in action March 22 at home against Columbus, with rival Belleville coming to town the next night. The Knights then close out the busy week at Lodi March 25.
Brodhead wins twice
BRODHEAD — The Cardinals picked up a pair of victories last week, defeating Big Foot 3-1 March 16 and sweeping Evansville two days later.
In the win over Big Foot, Brodhead served at a 92.1% successful clip. Alexis Kammerer led the Cardinals with 5 aces, while Sabrina Siegel had 2 and Abbie Dix and Madisyn Kail each had one.
Dix finished the night with 19 kills, with Addie Yates adding another 5. Dix also had 8 blocks and 25 digs. Kammerer added 32 assists and 19 digs. Siegel (13), Kail (10) and Ellie Yates (11) also finished with double-figures in digs. The Cardinals had 94 digs total as a team.
In the 25-14, 25-16, 25-19 sweep of Evansville, Kammerer had 27 assists, 5 kills, a block and 2 aces. Ellie Yates had 14 digs and 2 aces. McKenna Young added 2 aces, 3 blocks and 7 kills. Dix finished with 8 kills, 6 blocks and 9 digs.
Brodhead served at just 83.6% and had 12 service errors. The Cardinals were slated to play at McFarland March 23, then will host Clinton March 25.
