NEW GLARUS — Cade Thayer had a night to remember, as the senior caught two touchdown passes and an interception in New Glarus-Monticello’s 21-0 win over Turner on Friday, Sept. 1. 

Quarterback Max Marty and Thayer connected with 24 seconds in the first quarter to put the Knights on the board. The two found each other again in the fourth quarter — this time for a 12-yard gain. Between the two passes, Leyton Mihlbauer ran for a touchdown of his own.

Marty was 11-for-22 passing for 143 yards and two TDs. On the ground, he tallied 72 yards on 11 carries. Charlie Sarbacker ran for 66 yards on 11 carries. Thayer brought in six passes for 98 yards, including two touchdowns. On defense, the Knights sacked Turner QB JP Roche four times. Sam Perkins recorded two of those sacks, with the other two coming from Lawrence Vasquez and Alex Pauli.

New Glarus-Monticello improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference, while Turner drops to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in conference. 


BLACK HAWK-WARREN 62, PARKVIEW-ALBANY 6

WARREN — The Warriors opened their Six Rivers Conference schedule with a convincing win over Parkview-Albany on Friday, Sept. 1. In three games, Black Hawk-Warren has outscored its opponents 156-20. 

Black Hawk-Warren came out of the gates strong, scoring four times in the final seven and a half minutes. Eli Schliem, Owen Seffrood and Lane Marty had rushing touchdowns each. The defensive highlight of the quarter, though, was Andrew Figi’s 46-yard pick 6. 

After another three rushing touchdowns — two from Seffrood and one from Piercen Mahoney — Parvkiew-Albany avoided the shutout with a 5-yard TD run by Kamron Parker in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors (3-0, 1-0 Six Rivers) tallied 415 rushing yards, as Seffrood and Marty ran for over 100 yards each. Schliem attempted just two passes, with one of them landing in the hands of Figi for four yards. Defensively, James Holland and Figi hauled in interceptions.

Parkview-Albany (0-3, 0-1) relied on Parker for 31 rushing yards on 11 carries. He had the lone touchdown. Quarterback Aiden Crane was 4-for-11 passing for 26 yards and two interceptions.


BRODHEAD-JUDA 41, RICHLAND CENTER 7

BRODHEAD — The duo of Gabe Bockhop and Gunner Boegli accounted for four of the Cardinals’ six touchdowns in a 41-7 conference victory on Friday, Sept. 1.

In the first quarter alone, the pair connected for two touchdown passes tallying 67 yards. To begin the second quarter, Bockhop scampered 79 yards to the end zone. With 1:15 left in the first half, Bockhop targeted Marcus McIntyre for a 30-yard TD pass.

In total, Bockhop was 8-for-10 passing for 144 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, he rushed 79 yards on four carries for a TD. Isaac Saunders and Dane Huffman also tallied rushing TDs. In the air, Boegli caught four passes for 92 yards and two TDs. McIntyre hauled in two passes for 32 yards and one TD. Defensively, McIntyre, Boegli and David Masloske each had an interception.

In three games, Brodhead-Juda (3-0, 1-0 SWC) has outscored opponents 114-17. Richland Center (0-3, 0-1) has put up just 31 points in three games.


DARLINGTON 41, POTOSI-CASSVILLE 8

POTOSI — The Chieftains held the lead for just under eight minutes before the Redbirds scored 34 unanswered points in a Week 3 comeback victory on Friday, Sept. 1.

Reagan Jackson put Darlington on the board with a 3-yard rushing TD, but Potosi-Cassville responded 48 seconds later with a 70-yard TD of its own. With a successful 2-point conversion, the Chieftains took an 8-7 lead. 

In the final three minutes of the first quarter, Maddox Goebel ran for two touchdowns, giving Darlington a lead it didn’t relinquish. For the final three touchdowns, quarterback Breylin Goebel targeted three different receivers — Broker Buschor, Maddox Goebel and Will Murray. Denilo Ramos-Godoy was 5-for-6 on extra point attempts.

In total, Breylin Goebel was 13-for-15 passing for 239 yards and three TDs. Murray was the main target, hauling in five catches for 107 yards and one TD. On the ground, Maddox Goebel led the Redbirds with 44 yards on six carries with two TDs. Defensively, Brady Long tallied an interception and Eli Crist a sack.

After its narrow loss in Week 2 Darlington rebounded to improve to 2-1 overall. Meanwhile, Potosi-Cassville suffered its first loss and dropped to 2-1 overall. 


CUBA CITY 42, PECATONICA-ARGYLE 6

BLANCHARDVILLE — A third-quarter score was all the Vikings could muster in a Week 3 loss to Cuba City on Friday, Sept. 1. Max Godfrey was 9-for-29 passing for 159 yards one TD and three INT. While Pecatonica-Argyle had positive passing yards, they had -1 rushing yards. Nathan Burkeland, who caught the lone TD pass, was one of two rushers with positive yards. Talen Havens was the other.

The Vikings drop to 0-3 overall, while Cuba City improves to 2-1 overall.
