Hendrickson Hits For The Cycle As Pecatonica Blasts Highland 11-0

Senior Diana Hendrickson singled, doubled, tripled and blasted a home run — the hitter’s cycle —  and collected five RBIs to power the Pecatonica Vikings to an 11-0 win in five innings over the Highland Cardinals in Six Rivers Conference softball on April 17. Hendrickson fell a single shy of hitting for the cycle. Hendrickson also pitched a three-hit shutout to lead the Vikings. Right fielder Mikaela Gross also had a great day at the plate as she went 3x4 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. Hendrickson, Brooklyn Johnsrud, Gretta Schraepfer, and Kiaya York all had doubles for the Vikings. Hendrickson totaled eight strikeouts and just one walk. By winning, the Vikings are now 3-2 in the Six Rivers Conference, 3-5 overall. Pec hosted Belmont on April 21.


Wisconsin Heights No-Hits Belleville

The Belleville Wildcats were no-hit by Wisconsin Heights in Capitol South conference softball 4-0 on April 17 at Wisconsin Heights. The Vanguards allowed the Wildcats to reach base just twice, once on a walk and once on an error. Sophomore pitcher Brynn Prochaska pitched well enough to win for the Wildcats, allowing two earned runs in six innings with 11 strikeouts, but Wisconsin Heights pitcher Isabelle Sutherland was even better, facing two over the minimum and struck out eight. With the loss, the Wildcats drop to 0-3 in the conference, 1-6 overall. Belleville traveled to Marshall for a Capitol South conference game on April 21.


Cheesemakers Give Up Seven Unearned Runs in 8-4 Loss To Verona

The Monroe Cheesemakers allowed Verona to score just one earned run in an 8-4 loss to the Wildcats in non-conference softball on April 17 at Monroe. Six errors by the Cheesemakers is what did them in as the Wildcats scored seven of their eight runs over the final four innings. Junior Kaegann Paulson hit two triples and sophomore Paizley Kundert hit two doubles while senior Olivia Feller hit a double for Monroe. The Cheesemakers remain undefeated in RVC-Valley Division play at 3-0, and 8-3 overall. The Cheesemakers RVC-Rock on April 21 before facing conference foe Whitewater of the RVC-Valley Division on April 22.


Argyle-Black Hawk Turns Back Potosi-Cassville

The Argyle-Black Hawk Orioles jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead and never trailed in a 10-2 win over the Potosi-Cassville Chieftains in Six Rivers Conference softball on April 17 at Potosi. Junior Sam Kammes drove in two runs with a base hit. The top of the batting order for the Orioles, consisting of senior Mya McNett, junior Kylie Butler, senior Maddy Lange, and senior Ava Wiegel each drove in a run in a 12-hit attack for Argyle-Black Hawk. Brynn Harris started for the Orioles and allowed two runs on five hits. Argyle-Black Hawk got their first conference win and improved to 1-5 with the victory, 5-6 overall. The Orioles played at Highland in another Six Rivers Conference game on April 21 at Highland.


Brodhead Gets Two RVC-Rock Wins

Playing back-to-back Rock Valley Rock Conference game on consecutive days, the Brodhead Cardinals picked up two wins last week by defeating the Clinton Cougars, 4-2 on April 17 and winning over Big Foot, 3-0 on April 18. Senior starting pitcher Ava Risum played a big role in both wins. Against Clinton, Risum homered, scored a run and drove in two runs to lead the Cardinals. Risum fanned 13 batters and walked just one. Freshman shortstop Mady Henning drove in a run and scored a run for Brodhead. 

In the game against Big Foot the following day, Risum no-hit the Chiefs, got two hits, including a double and scored two runs. It was almost a perfect game for Risum as she walked just one batter and struck out 14. Third baseman Leah Rear hit a triple and got an RBI for the Cardinals. With the two wins, Brodhead is now 4-2 in the Rock Valley Rock, 5-2 overall. The Cardinals faced Edgerton in a Rock Valley conference, Rock Division game on April 22.


Jubany Splits A Pair

The Juda-Albany Panthers played two Six Rivers Conference games in softball last week, losing one and winning one. The Panthers played the Belmont Braves on April 17 in Belmont and lost, 10-2. The Braves rolled up a 7-0 lead before the Panthers broke through with a pair of runs in the fifth inning.  Center fielder Emerson Briggs got two hits in three at-bats and catcher Phoenix Homan smacked a double to lead Jubany. Sophomore Anna Bartels started for Juda-Albany and gave up just two earned runs in 3 and 1/3 innings. 

On April 18, the Panthers came away with a 5-3 win in eight innings over the Potosi-Cassville Chieftains. Freshman centerfielder Ryleigh Brown slugged a two run homer to back the three-hit pitching of junior Emerson Briggs. Sophomore catcher Phoenix Homan ripped a double, scored a run, and drove in a run for Juda-Albany. Briggs racked up 11 strikeouts in the win. With a win and a loss, Juda-Albany evened their overall record to 5-5 and 2-4 in the Six Rivers Conference. The Panthers travel to Barneveld to face the Golden Eagles in Six Rivers Conference play on April 22.
