Ganshert dazzles for Argyle with triple-double
Dix scores 27 for Brodhead girls; Ponies oust Orioles

ARGYLE — In a 48-25 win over Pecatonica Dec. 18, Argyle’s Grace Ganshert had a stat line to remember. The junior guard recorded a triple-double with 28 points, 10 rebounds and 11 steals, helping lead her team to victory.

The Orioles led the rival Vikings 22-14 at halftime, but in the second half it was a different story, as the home team out-scored Pecatonica 26-11 over the final 18 minutes. Tori Lantz and Maggie Godfrey each had 10 points for Argyle.

Sophomore Chloe Schraepfer led the Vikings with 12 points. 


Argyle 62, Juda 11

JUDA — The Orioles jumped out to a dominating 31-3 halftime lead against the Panthers Dec. 17.

Ganshert scored 17 points to lead the way, with Lantz adding 14 and Chesney Leigh 11. Argyle had 23 steals in the contest, but was also sloppy itself at times, turning the ball back over to Juda on 21 occasions.

Juda made just three field goals in the game. Briley Swedlund led the way with 5 points.


New Glarus 63, Belleville 29

NEW GLARUS — The Glarner Knights outscored their rival 39-14 in the first half and never looked back Dec. 19.

Jaylynn Benson scored 21 points to lead New Glarus, while Shealyn Klosterman-Havens had 11, Lindsey Schadewalt finished with 10 and Alex Atwell added 9.

Alyssa Caskey led Belleville with 9 points, and Ava Foley scored 8.


Edgewood 54, New Glarus 39

NEW GLARUS — On Dec. 17, the Knights were outsized and lost to the Crusaders.

Schadewalt scored 18 points, and Atwell and Benson each added seven.

Edgewood was paced by Sarah Lazar’s 14 points. Lazar, a 6-3 post player, will play for NCAA Division I Saint Louis University next year. Baluck Deang, 6-1, scored 12 points and Ally Barth, 6-0, had 10. Edgewood led 28-18 at halftime.


Brodhead 66, Whitewater 39

BRODHEAD — Abbie Dix had 27 points and Kiarra Moe added 15 for the Cardinals Dec. 17.

Brodhead led 33-23 at halftime and outscored the Whippets 33-16 in the second half. 

The Cardinals’ tough defense made it trouble for Whitewater all night, as the away team finished just 13 of 50 (26%) from the field, including a 5-for-21 (23%) mark from beyond the arc.

In other area girls basketball action, Darlington picked up a SWAL win Dec. 18, edging Fennimore 37-36. The Redbirds have now won three straight games after opening the season with five straight losses.


Boys basketball

New Glarus 71, Cambridge 40

NEW GLARUS — Four Glarner Knights scored 12 points in a conference victory Dec. 18.

Nathan Streiff, Mason Martinson, Darris Schuett and Dain Walter all scored a dozen points, and Carter Siegenthaler added 9.

New Glarus led 35-26 at halftime, but dominated in the second half, outscoring the Blue Jays 71-40.


Evansville 58, Brodhead 53

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals lost a tight game Dec. 18 to Rock Valley rival Evansville.

Owen Leifker finished with 19 points to lead Brodhead, while teammate Josiah Engen scored 9 and Brady Malkow 8.

Ryan Thompson led the Blue Devils with 21 points, and Mason Miller score 12.


Shullsburg 72, Black Hawk 56

SHULLSBURG — Brendan Kudronowicz scored 24 points for the Miners, who pulled away from the Warriors with a big second half of their game Dec. 17. 

The two teams went into the locker room separated by just one point, but Shullsburg outscored Black Hawk 40-25 over the final 18 minutes of the game.

Brandon Hoppman (16), Heath Poppy (11) and Chadler Kelly (10) also scored in double figures for the Miners.


Monticello 54, Argyle 35

ARGYLE — Peter Gustafson scored 23 points on 11 of 17 shooting to pace the Ponies in a key Six Rivers East win Dec. 17. 

Monticello, the defending league champion, led Argyle 25-11 at halftime. Gustafson finished the night with 9 rebounds, while Owen Ace had 8 boards. In the post, Tristin Flanagan scored 6 points and added 10 rebounds.
