Fink, Pec honored in Six Rivers East

MONROE — Despite finishing third in the Six Rivers East Conference, Pecatonica was well-represented in the all-conference selections recently released by the league.

Head coach Matt Fink was named Coach of the Year. He led Pecatonica to a 9-3 mark in conference and 15-9 record overall. The Vikings won their opening playoff game against St. Ambrose Academy 55-51 before falling to SRE champions Barneveld 51-35 in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal. 

Tyler McKeon was the team’s first-team all-conference selection. Charles Anderson and Jameson Johnson earned second-team AC, and Evan Dochnal garnered honorable mention recognition. Elijah Knutson made the sportsmanship team.

Argyle, who finished a game back of Barneveld, had four of its starting five honored.

Will Helfvogt was a back-to-back first-team all-conference selection. According to WisSports.net, he was third in the league in scoring with 16.0 ppg. Helfvogt eclipsed 1,000 career points in a nonconference win over Southwestern on Feb. 6. He shot 81% from the line (51-for-63) and 42% from beyond the arc (43-for-103). 

Ike Waage also made 1st AC. He was second on the team in scoring with 12.8 ppg and tallied a season-high 22 points against Pearl City, Ill. on Jan. 6 and against Abundant Life on Jan. 22.

Max Godfrey was a second-team AC selection. Mason McNett earned honorable mention and made the sportsmanship team.

Argyle finished 10-2 in league play and 17-8 overall. The Orioles won their opening playoff game against Rio 66-58 before falling to Southwestern 82-34 in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal game.

Monticello’s Ryer Indergand was a two-time 1st AC selection. He led the league in scoring with 20.6 ppg, eclipsing 1,000 career points in a win over Albany on Feb. 16. Indergand also tallied 6.3 rpg and 2.1 assists per game. His 46 steals were a team best.

Teammates Alex Roe and Peyton Smith earned honorable mention. Logan Rear was named to the sportsmanship team.

Monticello finished 6-6 in conference for fourth place. Overall, the Ponies were 10-15 and won their opening playoff game against Albany 45-43. They then fell to top-seeded Abundant Life 66-23. 

Albany had three players recognized. Ty Durstchi earned 2nd AC, while Brayden Bakken and Drew Sertle received honorable mention. Nate Stokstad was named to the sportsmanship team.

The Comets finished 4-8 in the SRE and 12-13 overall. During the season, Albany had a seven-game win streak. 

Black Hawk’s Trae Hagen and Andrew Figi earned honorable mention AC, while James Holland made the sportsmanship team. The Warriors were 2-10 in conference and 2-23 overall. 

Juda’s Micheal Hosch was the lone all-conference selection at honorable mention and also made the sportsmanship team. The Panthers were 0-12 in conference and 0-23 overall.

Barneveld’s Kasey Helgeson was named the Six Rivers East Player of the Year. He was second in the league in scoring with 18.1 ppg. He also grabbed 8.8 rpg with 65 assists and 60 steals.

The Eagles won the league for the second straight season with an 11-1 mark. Barneveld was 20-7 overall and fell in a WIAA Division 5 regional final to Fall River, 73-47.
