Darlington, Pec shut out in season openers

POTOSI — Darlington committed six errors, giving up five unearned runs in a 10-0 run-rule loss to Potosi-Cassville on Tuesday, March 19. 

The Redbirds collected four hits, one each from Lylah Norgard, Sydney Wiegel, Braelyn Grossen and Lilly Ritchie. Sophie Wiegel started the game in the circle for Darlington, going three innings. She gave up six hits, three earned runs and struck out four batters. Sydney Wiegel pitched the remaining 1 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on one hit. 

PC’s leadoff batter Matty Udelhofen was 2-for-4 with four runs scored. Alayna Kerkhoff, Natalee Fried and Serena Flores smacked a double each. Elle Pierce pitched all five innings for the win. She gave up four hits and struck out nine.

MINERAL POINT 12, PECATONICA 0

MINERAL POINT — Mineral Point’s Liz Hoffman pitched a no-hitter against Pecatonica in both team’s season openers on Tuesday, March 19. The Pointers were just one error and hit batter away from a perfect game.

Brooklyn Johnsrud was the only base runner for the Vikings, as she was hit to lead off the game.

Diana Hendrickson suffered the loss for Pecatonica, pitching all four innings. She gave up six earned runs on 10 hits, as Pecatonica committed three errors. 

Offensively, Leah Hoffman led the Pointers. She went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs. Mineral Point had a pair of five-run innings in the third and fourth that put the game away.
