MUSCODA — With its 5-0 win over No. 19 Riverdale on May 14 — paired with Mineral Point’s 5-2 loss to Fennimore — Darlington clinched at least a share of the SWAL title. The Redbirds can earn the championship outright with a win over the Golden Eagles on May 17.
The SWAL title is the third in three seasons for Darlington boys, who also won in football and basketball.
Maddox Goebel had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. Breylin Goebel also had a multiple-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored. Leadoff hitter Tye Crist reached base three times with one hit and two walks. He scored twice.
Gage Banfield collected the win, throwing five innings of one-hit ball. He struck out seven and walked two. Relief pitcher Reagan Jackson gave up one hit and struck out two in two innings’ work.

MONTICELLO — The No. 7 Vikings batted around in the order in the second and fifth innings, leading to a mercy-rule victory on May 14. Every starter in the lineup recorded a hit.
Lukas Rue finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Jameson Johnson drove in four runs, going 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Tyler McKeon, Elijah Knutson and Grady Gordon drove in two runs each.
McKeon earned the win, throwing four innings of three-hit ball. He struck out nine and walked one.
Leon Parker, Nick Stokstad and Ty Durtschi tallied Monticello-Albany’s three hits. Brayden Bakken suffered the loss, giving up four earned runs on five hits. He struck out two and walked one.

BARNEVELD — Despite just two fewer hits than the Eagles, the Ponies dropped a Six Rivers East Conference game May 13 thanks to 12 free passes given up.
Carson Gafner led the way, going 1-for-2 with a walk and one RBI. Cody Pryce suffered the loss, giving up three earned runs on two hits. He struck out three but walked eight.

LIVINGSTON — Despite a five-run third, the Orioles dropped a nonconference game to the Panthers on May 13.
Will Helfvogt wasn’t retired in four plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with a walk and a hit by pitch. Max Godfrey also recorded a multiple-hit game, going 2-for-4 with one run scored. Cole Scott drove in a team-best two runs.
Mitchell Johnsen suffered the loss, giving up two runs on two hits. He struck out three and walked two. Helfvogt got the start, giving up six earned runs on six hits. He struck out five but walked six.

NEW GLARUS — Nine hits made up for three errors, as the Glarner Knights defeated the Pirates in a Capitol South Conference game May 14.
Ashlin Mihlbauer came up clutch, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Landon Stelter also recorded a multiple-hit game, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, walk and RBI. Patrick Alt picked up the win, giving up three runs on seven hits. He struck out six and walked one.
