Dahl gets to 1,000 pts in Albany win

BENTON — Albany senior Brianna Dahl wasted no time getting a career milestone out of the way in her team’s 60-38 win over Benton in the season opener Nov. 16. Dahl entered the season with 999 points and reached the 1,000-point mark on a first half free throw. She finished with 7 points

Alana Durtschi led the Comets with 17 points, while Kaiya Zurfluh tallied 13 and Myah Johnson finished with 11. 

Albany, which led 32-12 at halftime, forced 42 turnovers on defense.


Belleville 66, Argyle 35

ARGYLE — The Orioles opened the season with a nonconference loss to the Wildcats Nov. 16.

Ava Foley led Belleville with 13 points, while Callie Smith finished with 12, Mickey Stampfli 11 and Maddi DeSmet 10. Smith also added an astounding 21 rebounds.


Monticello 37, 

Madison Abundant Life/St. Ambrose 15

MONTICELLO — The Ponies opened their winter schedule with a dominating win Nov. 16. 

Freshman Dalana Trumpy led all scorers with 19 points, while junior Ellie Gustafson added 16 points. Senior Sarah Brokopp scored Monticello’s only other basket.

“We got out to an early lead. Our defense had quite a few steals,” said Lori Brokopp, Monticello’s coach. The Ponies led 23-9 at halftime.


Pecatonica 70, 

Iowa-Grant 32

LIVINGSTON — The Vikings opened the season big winners Nov. 16. Pecatonica jumped out to a 43-13 lead at halftime and cruised over the final 18 minutes.

Lexi Peterson led the Vikings with 18 points, and Tessa Green added 16. Anna Tisch tallied nine points on three 3-pointers. Nivaeh Gross and Chloe Schraepfer ended the night with eight points each. 


Brodhead 56, 

Janesville Parker 20

BRODHEAD — The Cardinals opened the girls basketball season with a blowout win over Parker Nov. 16.

Brodhead jumped out to a 37-12 lead at halftime, and continued their defensive pressure in the second half while emptying the bench in the process. All 10 players on the Cardinals’ varsity roster saw action on the court. 

Onnikah Oliver and Abbie Dix each scored 11 points, while Tori Urness had 9 and Addison Yates 8.

Turner 58, Juda 37

JUDA — The Panthers fell behind 27-15 at halftime, then were outscored by nine more points in the second half of the season opener Nov. 16.

Anna Skoumal was the only Juda player in double figures with 18 points. Turner had three players in double figures, with Nadilee Fernandez leading the way with a game-high 19.
