Brodhead survives Dodgeville, 67-65

BRODHEAD — A nonconference contest between Brodhead and Dodgeville came down to the wire on Saturday, Feb. 10, but the Cardinals held on for a 67-65 win.

With 1.7 seconds left, Jaxon Dooley fouled Bryce Crubaugh-Lockard while shooting a 3-pointer. Crubaugh-Lockard made all three free throws, tying the game at 65. 

Gabe Bockhop took the inbounds pass and, using his quarterback skills, threw it down the floor to Cullen Walker. Dodgeville tipped the pass out of bounds, setting Brodhead up under their own basket. On the inbounds play, Dooley screened for Gunner Boegli, who got the inbounds pass from Walker and scored as time expired. 

Walker led Brodhead (9-11, 5-6 RVC) with 19 points and seven assists. Dooley also finished in double figures with 16 points. Nathan Engen had 13 rebounds. Reilly Berg paced Dodgeville (6-14, 3-5 SWC) with 16 points.

TURNER 78, BRODHEAD 68

BRODHEAD — Turner won the rebound battle, leading to a conference win for the Trojans on Thursday, Feb. 8.  Turner (14-6, 9-2) outrebounded Brodhead 33-22. The Cardinals won the 3-point battle, going 13-for-30 from beyond the arc. The Trojans were 10-for-22. 

Bockhop and Walker combined for 52 points, shooting 11-for-22 from 3-point range. Bockhop also led on the glass with five rebounds. Another three players grabbed four rebounds — Dooley, Engen and Brody Riese. 

PLATTEVILLE 70, NEW GLARUS 57

NEW GLARUS — The Hillmen snapped the Glarner Knights’ 9-game winning streak in a nonconference contest on Saturday, Feb. 10. Division 3 Platteville (17-3, 8-0 SWC) had four players in double figures, whereas New Glarus (14-6, 6-0 Capitol South) had three.

Charlie Sarbacker and Jake Roth scored 13 points each. Sarbacker sank three 3-pointers in his total. Brett Warrell also finished in double figures with 12 points and a pair of 3s. 

NEW GLARUS 67, WISCONSIN HEIGHTS 41

MAZOMANIE — The Glarner Knights lit it up beyond the arc, making 10 threes in a conference win over the Vanguards on Thursday, Feb. 8. In comparison, Wisconsin Heights (8-12, 0-6) made just two.

Roth led New Glarus with 15 points and three 3-pointers. Nolan Julseth also made three 3s in his 13-point total. Brett Warrell scored 10 points, including a pair of threes. Max Marty also finished in double figures with 10 points.

WISCONSIN HEIGHTS 54, MONTICELLO 50

MONTICELLO — Although a 3-pointer from Ryer Indergand with 47 seconds left in the game pulled the Ponies within one, Monticello fell in a nonconference matchup on Saturday, Feb. 10. Wisconsin Heights outrebounded Monticello (8-11, 5-4 Six Rivers East) 34-22, leading to 34 points in the paint.

Indergand led the Ponies with 23 points, going 8-for-12 from the line. Hunter Grossen finished with 10 points and a team-best six rebounds.

ALBANY 58, BLACK HAWK 42

ALBANY — The Comets allowed just seven first-half points in a Six Rivers East Conference game on Thursday, Feb. 8. Albany (11-10, 4-6) capitalized on 22 Black Hawk (1-19, 1-9) turnover, scoring 24 points.

Tyler Patchen and Brayden Bakken led the Comets with 14 points each. Ty Durtschi also finished in double figures with 10 points. Caleb Smith grabbed a team-best eight rebounds. 

Griffin Komprood paced the Warriors with 17 points. Brycen Wilson chipped in another 10 points. Lane Marty led on the glass with 14 rebounds.

In other local boys basketball action, Pecatonica (12-7, 8-2 Six Rivers East) picked up a pair of wins over Juda (0-18, 0-9), 65-50, and Rio (3-18, 1-10 Trailways South), 69-41.
