BRODHEAD — Addison Yates and Allie Dahl recorded double-doubles to boost their team over Big Foot, 59-49, in a Rock Valley Conference contest on Monday, Feb. 12. As a team, the Cardinals (15-8, 9-5) outrebounded the Chieftains (7-16, 3-11) 42-25.
The Cardinals quickly built up a 5-0 lead with a 3-pointer from Dahl and fast-break bucket from Brenley Jones. Big Foot didn’t get on the board until three minutes into the contest with a basket from Addie Larson. The Chieftains turned it a one-possession game, as Larson completed an old-fashioned 3-point play.
Brodhead built its lead back up to 14-8, thanks to rebounding. Jones went to the line for two, making the first and missing the second. Dahl grabbed the rebound of the second, getting tangled up with a Big Foot player. The jump ball gave possession to the Cardinals, who eventually scored on a 3-pointer from Dahl.
After a three from Lizzie Lueck, Dahl responded with one of her own. Brodhead’s possession was kept alive thanks to two offensive boards.
Brodhead’s advantage reached 10 points with just 41.9 second left in the first half. Yates scored down low, drawing Molly Andersen’s third foul of the half. She then made the and-one for a 21-11 edge. With just 14 seconds remaining in the opening frame, Jones extended the lead to 23-11 with an assist from Onnika Williams.
The Cardinals began the second half with a high press, leading to Big Foot turnovers. Dahl scored on three straight possessions, aided by two steals, for a 34-15 lead.
Brodhead’s advantage never reached 20 points, though, as Big Foot’s perimeter shooting kept the team in the game. In the final five minutes, the Chieftains made five 3-pointers.
Fouls ended up hurting Big Foot, as Brodhead reached bonus with just over three minutes left in the game. Down the stretch, the Cardinals went 9-for-16 at the line. Big Foot’s Andersen and Mya Gonzalez fouled out.
Yates and Dahl finished with double-doubles. Yates led on the glass with 15 rebounds, adding another 17 points. Dahl paced the offense with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Jones also finished in double figures with 11 points. As a team, Brodhead finished 16-for-24 from the line and 5-for-14 from 3-point range.
