SOUTH WAYNE — The Black Hawk girls track and field team won its home invitational Sept. 20, while the boys team finished third out of six teams. 

Cassville (90.5) was second in the girls team rankings behind the Warriors (102.5), with Albany (78), Tri State Homeschool (72), Belmont (56) and Pecatonica-Argyle (39) completing the scoring. On the boys side, Tri State (137) took top honors, followed by Pec-Argyle (96.5), then Black Hawk (59.5), Cassville (46), Albany (45) and Belmont (30).

Albany’s McKenna Broughton won the 800-meter run (2:43.28) by nearly six seconds. Teammate Kaiya Zurfluh was second in the 1,600 (6:45.90), 27 seconds behind champion Audrey North of Tri State. 

Black Hawk’s Kaylee Marty was second in the 400 (1:04.58) behind Elizabeth Pronschinske of Tri State (1:01.57). Also finishing second for Black Hawk was Savannah Freitag in the 200 (31.00) by just 19/100ths of a second to Pronschinske. In the 100-meter hurdles, Black Hawk senior Emily Triem was second (20.48) by a half of a second.

Pecatonica-Argyle freshman Anna Tisch won the 300-hurdles (55.94) by nearly five seconds. Tisch and teammates Allie Godfrey, Sydney Webster and Lexi Peterson won the 1,600-meter relay (4:52.12), with Albany (Broughton, Wacholz, Jada Flannery, Linsey Mueller) second (4:53.25).

Albany also won the 3,200-relay, with Payton Wachholz, Ava Ahnen, Mueller and Broughton finishing with a time of 11:36.29.

Black Hawk’s Makayla Mau edged Albany’s Aby Conway in the high jump at 4-feet, 4-inches.

Flannery won the shot put (31-02) and the discus (111-00.5). Mau was second in the shot put (30-00) and third in the discus (86-06.5). Black Hawk’s Jaliyah Collins was second in the discus (94-11) and third in the shot put (27-10).

On the boys side, Black Hawk’s Elijah Shelton won the 100-meter dash (12.21) by 39/100ths of a second. Shelton also won the 200 (25.22) by just 1/100th of a second over Pecatonica-Argyle’s Kaden Hartwig.

Pecatonica-Argyle senior David Tisch (56.86) and Hartwig (57.49) finished second and third behind Weston Kammes (55.67) of Tri State. Ridge Toay won the 1,600 (5:25.93) by four seconds. Toay (52.65) and Pec-Argyle teammate Jace Starr (53.38) were second and third in the 300-hurdles behind Belmont’s Trenton Shepard (48.33).

In the 800, Albany’s Gage Roth (2:16.53) outsprinted Tisch (2:17.98) for first place. Teammate Ethan Koss won the 110-high hurdles (20.71) by 1/10th of a second over Starr. Koss won the high jump (5-04) over Roth (5-02), who was second.

Black Hawk’s quartet of Spence Seffrood, Andrew Figi, Nicoli LaDow and Jovanny Erickson finished first in the 400-relay (53.11). Erickson, Seffrood, Figi and Teegan Sweeney then won the 800-relay (1:46.83). Pec-Argyle’s Nathan Nickels, Toay, Hartwig and Tisch teamed up to in the 1,600-relay (4:07.79).


Darlington boys, girls fourth at Boscobel Invitational

BOSCOBEL — The Redbirds finished fourth overall in both the boys and girls standings at the 6-team Boscobel Invitational May 20.

Redbird champions included Jaidyn Evenstad in the 300-hurdles (55.57), Laura Weaver in the discus (88-08), and the 800-relay team (1:53.98) of Zoie Zuberbuhler, Abby Solverson, Gabby Leuchtenmacher and Raquel Reuter. 

On the boys side, winners included Rhett Reuter in the 800 (2:05.73) and the 1,600-relay team (3:52.01) of Reuter, Ethan Thompson, Roger Volkening and George West.
