MONROE — The Cheesemakers lost to Beaver Dam 7-3 on Jan. 4.
The Golden Beavers took the early 1-0 lead after 8:45 of play, and then sniped in a second goal at the 13:26 mark in the first period.
Things went from bad to worse for Monroe coming out of intermission. Beaver Dam scored three more goals in the first 11 minutes of the second to go ahead 5-0.
Over the final 21 minutes, however, Monroe would outscore their opponents 3-2.
The Cheesemakers got on the board at the 13:04 mark in the second on a goal from Josh Haight, with Aiden Gray assisting. Just 56 seconds later Patrick Alt lit the lamp, with assists coming from Benjamin Erdley and Cater Nemergut.
The Beavers scored twice in an 11-second stretch in the third to again put Monroe down by five. Cheesemakers senior Sergio Fletcher capped the scoring with a goal with less than three minutes to play in the third. Erdley and Alt assisted.
Beaver Dam outshot Monroe 47-26 in the game. Xander Obert had 40 saves for the Cheesemakers.
Monroe will travel to second-ranked Oregon (9-5, 3-2) on Jan. 11.
