ARGYLE — Free throws from Mason McNett and Ike Waage in the final 30 seconds secured Argyle’s 69-67 season-opening win against Iowa-Grant on Tuesday, Nov. 21. The victory is just the first step of the Orioles’ revenge season after taking second in the Six Rivers East and getting upset in the first round of playoffs.

“We are gunning for conference, so winning a nonconference game against a team that’s a higher division feels great,” Argyle senior Will Helfvogt said. “Our motto this year is revenge.”

Helfvogt led all scorers with 25 points, going 4-for-4 from the charity stripe with three 3-pointers. Waage and McNett also finished in double-figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

In other local basketball, Pecatonica defeated Benton 63-31 with 16 points from Tyler McKeon and 13 points from Jameson Johnson.

Monticello fell to Parkview 81-70.
