Darlington 40, Iowa-Grant 9

LIVINGSTON — The Redbirds put forth a solid defensive effort, earning a rousing SWAL victory Dec. 22. Darlington took a 22-3 lead into halftime, then outscored Iowa-Grant 18-6 in the second half.

“The kids have bought-in defensively,” Darlington coach Brad Solberg said. “They understand that defense travels and defense can be consistent. I thought our ball screen defense and rotations were the best we’ve done all year. We didn’t give them a clean look all night.”

It was the fourth straight win for the Redbirds after opening the season with five consecutive losses.

Taylor Wedig paced Darlington with 13 points, while eight teammates also scored in the win.

“I thought the kids did a nice job of preparing for Iowa-Grant. I started to see some leadership on the floor — something we’ve been waiting for,” Solberg said.
