ALBANY - With the Albany girls basketball team playing short-handed, junior Felicia Conley and senior Kirstie Kauk came through in crunch time against Cassville Saturday.

Conley made a jumper with about 1 minute left to tie the game. She then grabbed a rebound and that led to Alexis Kennedy's pass to Kauk for a game-winning layup at the buzzer to give Albany a 36-34 win over Cassville in a non-conference game.

Albany was playing without three starters. Senior Cassidy Bump is out for the year with an ACL injury. Julia Farley missed the game due to a dislocated knee and senior Carlie Peters missed the game due to an illness.

"It was quite an exciting finish," Albany coach Bryce Pickett said. "Felicia had her biggest game of the season. I thought we stepped up. We had a long conversation about the new pieces and roles. I think this was an important game to show we can still have success. When we function like we are capable of, we are capable of some good things."

Kauk scored a team-high 15 points and Conley added 13 points. With the win, Albany improves to 4-4, 1-2 Six Rivers East. With Bump out for the season, Conley will be relied on more as a scorer.

"She has a lot of starting experience," Pickett said. "She definitely knows it's a role she has to get comfortable with. Felicia is a great shooter. We hope she continues that and I think she can."

Brodhead 73, Dodgeville 60

DODGEVILLE - The Brodhead girls basketball team had a balanced attack and the Cardinals knocked off Dodgeville 73-60 Saturday to remain unbeaten.

Brodhead freshman Kylie Moe scored a team-high 17 points to pace the Cardinals. Junior Rachel Heller scored 16 points and senior Taylor Douglas added 15 points. Junior Carly Mohns chipped in 12.

"When you get two or three kids in double figures that is very good," Brodhead coach Brad Pickett said. "When you get four in double figures, that makes us harder to defend."

Brodhead (9-0) outscored the Dodgers 21-15 in the second quarter to take a 41-35 lead at the half. Dodgeville's Taylor Stanek scored a game-high 212 points. However, the Cardinals limited her to just five points in the second half.

"In the second half, we did a better job of locating her," he said. "That was a big key."

The Cardinals outscored the Dodgers 17-12 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. Brodhead lived at the free throw line shooting 24 of 36 from the charity stripe.

"We made more free throws than they attempted," Pickett said. "That was another key. We spread the floor and got to the free throw line."

The Cardinals host Big Foot on Tuesday and Jefferson on Thursday.

"I think we always talk about playing for 32 minutes," Pickett said. "I don't know if we have done that in a game this year. We are getting close. There is always room for improvement."

Mineral Point 46, Black Hawk 30

SOUTH WAYNE - Injuries and some cold shooting plagued Black Hawk in a 46-30 loss to Mineral Point.

Black Hawk senior Abby Schiferl went down in the first quarter with a sprained ankle and didn't return. The Warriors were already playing without junior Mikayla Sigafus who has a broken wrist. Black Hawk junior Jen Wellnitz scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Warriors. However, Wellnitz and junior Michelle Flanagan both fouled out in the fourth quarter and the Warriors were down to just five players.

"We are really stricken by the injury bug," Flanagan said. "Losing Schiferl really changed the game a little bit. She has been playing well for us. It was just really a game of not being able to finish. We had a hard time getting the ball in the hole."

Black Hawk (4-4, 2-1 Six Rivers East) jumped out to an 11-6 first quarter lead. The Pointers outscored the Warriors 15-7 in the second quarter to take a three point lead at the half.

"They (Wellnitz and Flanagan) picked up some early fouls and had to sit for certain stretches," Mike Flanagan said.

The Pointers controlled the game in the second half, outscoring the Warriors 25-12. Flanagan said another key to the game was Mineral Point shooting 16 of 29 from the free throw line and Black Hawk shooting just 8 of 18.
