KofC sets free-throw competition dates
MONROE - All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the 2008 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. The local competition will be held the first two Saturdays in February, the 2nd and the 9th, between 9 a.m. and noon at St. Victor School Gym.
The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district and state competitions. International champions are announced by the KofC international headquarters based on the scores from the state-level competitions. This year the competition for District 42 also will be held in Monroe at St. Victor Gym from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. Last year Austin Murphy, Jake Hirsbrunner, Ashley Segner, Tom Jenson and Dusty Burkhalter of Monroe and Anya Schween of New Glarus all advanced to the competition for District 42 in Darlington, where Segner advanced to compete in the Madison Diocesan Level in Sauk City. All boys and girls 10 to 14 are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. Last year more than 179,000 sharpshooters participated in more than 3,000 local competitions.
All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. For entry forms or additional information contact Tom Luchi at 325-6097.
