PALMYRA - The Juda girls basketball team picked up its defensive pressure and rolled to a 51-30 win over Johnson Creek Wednesday to win the championship of the Palmyra-Eagle tournament.

"We are starting to play better defense and get into midseason form," Juda coach Curt Brown said. "Lauren Dunwiddie played some good defense."

Juda senior Heather Boeke scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Panthers. Sophomore Ellen Kiser scored 10 points and senior Rachel Bartels chipped in nine.

Brown was impressed with the fact that the Panthers didn't let up.

"A lot of it was our focus and determination," Brown said were keys to playing with a big lead. "Towards the end of the game, we kept our foot on the pedal."

The Panthers will host Belmont Tuesday and will get back into Six Rivers East Conference action when they host Black Hawk Jan. 8. With the win Juda improved its record to 5-3 overall, and 0-1 Six Rivers East conference.
