EVANSVILLE - Taylor Riese drove in Dylan Schwitz in the top of the ninth as Monroe's Senior Legion baseball team picked up a 4-3 extra-innings win against Evansville Wednesday.
After Schwitz reached first base on a two-out error, Riese executed a hit-and-run to perfection by smashing a double to the outfield fence, scoring the game-winning run. Monroe collected just four hits in the game and struck out 12 times at the plate.
Kramer Henning picked up the win in relief, tossing three scoreless innings with six strikeouts for Monroe (8-2-1, 6-2 Stateline League). Logan Wells started for Monroe and allowed three runs - two earned - in three innings. Drew Nafzger relieved Wells in the fourth.
Monroe picked up two runs in the first and another in the seventh to force extra innings.
Monroe next plays Saturday in a doubleheader on the road at Jefferson.
