WATERTOWN - The Monroe boys basketball team couldn't overcome Watertown's hot shooting or a first half injury and lost to the Goslings 58-50 Tuesday.
Watertown made three straight 3-pointers to start the game and made 7 of its first 8 3s. The Goslings finished with 11 3s in the game.
"That was the difference in the game," Monroe coach Brian Bassett said. "They hit 11 3s and we made just two. We had some good shots. They just didn't fall."
With about 4 minutes left in the first half, Monroe senior Hunter Ward suffered a knee injury. He was taken to a local hospital.
"We are not sure how severe it is," Bassett said. "We were limited at guard before hand and we are even more limited now."
Monroe junior Kade King scored 19 points and senior Brayden Zettle added 13 points. Senior teammate Jonah Tostrud chipped in 10 points.
Monroe (5-6, 3-3 Badger South) led 45-41 late in the second half. The Goslings closed the game with a 17-5 run. With the win, Watertown (5-5, 3-3 Badger South) moves into a tie for third in the conference with the Cheesemakers.
"They made a couple of plays and we missed a couple of layups," Bassett said.
Watertown's Ben Smith scored a team-high 14 points and teammate Alec Lauersdorf added 12.
