BLANCHARDVILLE - Darlington junior Alex Erickson erupted for 31 points and the Redbirds rolled to a 69-48 non-conference win over Pecatonica Wednesday.

Darlington (9-0), ranked 11 in the Division 3 WisSports.Net Coaches poll, jumped out to a 16-8 first-quarter lead. The Vikings trailed by just 10 points at halftime.

"Darlington is a great ballclub," Pecatonica coach Kevin Parman said. "Their record shows it."

Erickson had the hot hand for Darlington as he drained six 3-pointers.

However, it was the missed opportunities that he wants to focus improving on the rest of the season.

"If we would have made our free throws and hit some more layups, it would have been a different ballgame in the first half. The mistakes are just mental. We have to get together and be more disciplined."

The Redbirds stormed out in the third quarter and outscored the Vikings 23-13 to build a 20-point lead.

Darlington senior Tanner Havens added 10 points for the Redbirds.

Pecatonica senior Jason Meudt scored a team-high 11 points for the Vikings. Senior Devin Jeglum added 10 points and sophomore Karson Feller chipped in eight points.

Darlington plays at Mineral Point Jan. 5 before traveling to Monroe for a match-up with the Cheesemakers Jan. 7. Pecatonica (3-4, 1-1 Six Rivers East) will host Weston Jan. 5.

In other tournament play Wednesday, Juda defeated Johnson Creek 48-34 in a third place game at the Palmyra-Eagle tournament.
