MONROE - The annual Swiss Cup matches between the Monroe Country Club and the Edelweiss Chalet Country Club will take place Saturday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18.
The golf tournament will be held at Edelweiss Chalet Country Club on Saturday and at Monroe Country Club on Sunday, from approximately 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both days.
Twelve players from each club will square off in the competition, which started in 1992 and is modeled after the Ryder Cup.
Jay Martinson, a regular participant in the tournament for Edelweiss since the late-1990s, said the friendly affair is not with a competitive spirit.
"It's a fun thing, but there's a trophy - the Swiss Cowbell," Martinson said. "So guys are out there trying. (It's) all of the same guys from year to year, so there's a lot of camaraderie."
Martinson said Edelweiss selects its 12 best players from qualifying events held throughout the summer, and that securing the Swiss Cowbell is important to all participants.
"You want to win," he said. "There's still a competitive edge for everybody, I'd say."
The tournament, which is open to the public, includes 27 holes of golf set for Saturday and Sunday with both courses hosting one round.
