MONROE - Coach Dale Buvid said that two weeks ago, his Monroe softball team likely would have lost a game like Tuesday's against Stoughton.
"Two weeks ago, we weren't hitting like we are now," Buvid said.
Monroe needed all of its 13 hits Tuesday to rally past the Vikings 5-4 at Twining Park, extending its winning streak to five straight.
Freshman Kari Jordan, one of four Monroe players to produce multiple hits, laced a two-run single in the fifth inning to account for the winning margin.
Buvid said that was fitting, considering Jordan is a big reason Monroe has been better offensively of late.
"We had trouble offensively for a while and she's certainly done her part, hitting in the high .300s range," Buvid said of Jordan, who joined the varsity midway through the season.
"She's done a nice job stepping in and playing some innings at third base and getting some timely hits. She's a lively bat at the bottom of the lineup where we hadn't had a lot of production."
Stoughton scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-2 lead. Buvid said it could have been much worse had junior pitcher Becca Armstrong not ended the Vikings' threat by striking out two straight batters.
"We fought out of it," he said.
Sophomore catcher Chandra McGuire started the winning rally in the bottom of the fifth with a double and senior Kayla Updike singled. Sophomore Taylor O'Leksy then had an RBI single and Jordan followed with what proved to be the game-winning single to right.
McGuire finished 3-for-4 while Jordan and O'Leksy were both 2-for-3. Sophomore Ellie Grossen was 2-for-4 for the Cheesemakers, who are 13-7 overall and finished 8-4 in the Badger South Conference.
Armstrong went the distance, allowing four earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and two walks.
