WATERTOWN - The Monroe softball team split two games at the Watertown softball tournament Saturday.
Monroe opened the tournament with a 13-1 win over Madison La Follette. Monroe senior Meghan Roberts pitched four innings and gave up just one earned run on two hits. She struck out six and walked one.
The Cheesemakers' offense pounded out 10 hits. Monroe sophomore Kristin McArdle went 3-for-3 and junior Jessica Beckman was 2-for-2. Fellow sophomore Kelsey Erickson went 2-for-3.
The Cheesemakers scored three runs in both the first and third innings before breaking the game open with a four-run fourth to take a commanding 10-1 lead.
In the tournament semifinals, Monroe lost to Watertown, 3-0. Watertown limited the Cheesemakers to just one hit. Roberts pitched a complete game and gave up three earned runs on seven hits. She struck out seven and walked none.
