PALMYRA - Brodhead-Juda coach B.J. Bockhop said Palmyra-Eagle never touched the Cardinals 30-yard line for a 39-0 blowout win.
"Yeah, they only put up about 150 yards the whole game," Bockhop said.
Palmyra-Eagle had 153 total yards to Brodhead-Juda's 356 yards. The Cardinals (7-1, 4-1 Rock Valley South) ran over Palmyra-Eagle with 323 rushing yards, 106 of those run out by Griffin Day off nine carries and 99 yards put up by Brennan Bescup on four carries. Brodhead-Juda threw one completion from two passes for 33 yards, caught by Ned Slocum who ran in a TD. Next week Brodhead-Juda takes on Big Foot, who has won the conference the last 10 years. Bockhop said this will be a big rivalry game and a tough week of training before kickoff next Friday.
Black Hawk, 42, Belmont 20
SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk defeated Belmont 42-20 and senior Shawn Woodruff broke the school record in rushing yards with 379 yards and scored four touchdowns.
Black Hawk had a tough first half only putting up six points to Belmont's 14. The Warriors (5-3, 5-2 Six Rivers) came back in a big way in the second half scoring 14 points in the third quarter and shutting out Belmont with 22 points in the fourth.
Black Hawk had a total of 456 yards, 421 from rushing off 51 carries and 35 yards passing on two completions. Belmont fell behind after the half and put up a total of 255 yards. The Warriors had four penalties costing them 25 yards, and they lost three fumbles. Jett Rufenacht caught one pass for 31 yards and a TD.
Black Hawk senior quarterback Heath Butler completed 2-of-5 passes for 35 yards with one touchdown. With the Warriors' win, both Pecatonica-Argyle and Potosi are tied atop the Six Rivers Conference. The Chieftains will play the Vikings at 2 p.m. today in Argyle.
Darlington 60, Mineral Point 21
MINERAL POINT- Darlington coach Scott Zywicki said his team took a lot of quick strikes and capitalized on Mineral Point with a win 60-21.
"We had a lot of good plays ... our running backs caught two back plays for like 60 and 70 yards," Zywicki said. "We gouged them for some long runs."
The Redbirds (7-1, 6-0 SWAL) ran away with the game early putting up 16 points in the first quarter then 22 in the second and 22 in the third.
Darlington had 570 total yards with 385 rushing yards off 40 carries. Darlington quarterback Cole McDonald was 3-of-5 passing for 185 yards with one touchdown.
Myles Leahy rushed for 176 yards off of 13 carries and scored four touchdowns. Jason Singer caught two passes for 123 yards.
Darlington plays Riverdale Friday, Oct. 17.
Evansville-Albany 54, East Troy 44
EAST TROY - Evansville-Albany remained in a three-way tie atop the Rock Valley North Conference with a shootout 54-44 win over East Troy.
Evansville-Albany running back Nathan Redders scored three touchdowns and Jontae Pegeese had two touchdowns - an 11-yard TD catch on a pass from Zach Mielke and a 7-yard run. Mielke also had a 40-yard TD run in the first half. With the win, Evansville-Albany (5-3, 4-1 Rock Valley North) is tied with McFarland and Jefferson atop the conference. Evansville-Albany will host McFarland Friday, Oct. 17.
NG-M 61, WIS. Heights 32
MAZOMANIE - Junior Trey Taylor pulled a hat-trick scoring a touchdowns on a kickoff return, a pass and a rushing.
"We had quite the gambit tonight with Taylor," New Glarus-Monticello coach Desie Breadon said.
New Glarus-Monticello pulled out a win against Wisconsin Heights 61-32 during what Breadon described as a "strange" night.
Wisconsin Heights has a player with Down syndrome on their team who scored two extra points and the Knights' junior kicker Sarah Marsh kicked two field goals.
"It felt really good to be a part of that," Breadon said.
He said the win was the confidence boost the Glarner Knights needed since they will not be in the playoffs this year. He said it was one of those games where everything just fit together right.
"There was just that kind of special stuff in it tonight," he said.
The Knights (2-6, 1-3 Capitol South) had a total of 528 yards, 430 in rushing on 34 carries and 98 passing yards on 4 of 8 passes. New Glarus-Monticello quarterback Gavin Binger threw for two touchdowns. New Glarus-Monticello had eight penalties costing them 75 yards, and they also lost four fumbles.
New Glarus-Monticello will play Belleville Friday, Oct. 17.
