EVANSVILLE - Monroe senior Kyle Bruce shot an 80 to take medalist honors at the Evansville Invitational on Friday.

Bruce's performance helped the Cheesemakers finish third in the 14-team field. Lodi edged Columbus 346-351 and Monroe carded a 354.

Bruce triple bogeyed No. 1 and then rebounded. He birdied No. 9 and No. 11 and mixed in several pars.

"He just kept his focus and had several pars to get back into it," Monroe coach Brian Jensen said. "He kept his composure and played well."

Matt Miller shot a 90 and Eric Timm and Caleb Pagel each shot a 92. Jason Atkinson carded a 94 for the Cheesemakers, who will play on the same course during the regional tournament.

Jensen wasn't satisfied with the third-place finish.

"I'm definitely happy for the team," Jensen said. "We had higher expectations than that. We are confident with this team this year."

Jensen is looking forward to the Cheesemakers returning to Evansville for the regional.

"It was good for the players to see this course," he said. "We have higher expectations when we play here again."

Monroe is scheduled to host the Monroe Invitational today at Monroe Country Club.
