BRODHEAD - The No. 1 seeded Brodhead Cardinals scored seven runs in the first two innings and senior pitcher Erika Stampfli struck out 16 batters in a 10-1 win over the Mineral Point Pointers in a Division 3 regional semifinal Tuesday.
After Stampfli struck out the side in the first inning, the Cardinals wasted no time in taking command. The first five batters reached for Brodhead, highlighted by an RBI single by sophomore Taylor Douglas and a two-run double by Stampfli to give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead.
Brodhead added three more runs in the second inning with the help of three Mineral Point errors as senior Tia Collins and sophomore Amanda Pickel scored while Douglas drove in a run with a base hit and later scored.
Douglas went 3 for 5 and drove in two runs and Stampfli went 2 for 5 and drove in three runs for Brodhead. Stampfli was dominant in the pitching circle as she struck out the side three times, allowed just four hits and walked just two batters.
Brodhead (16-1) will host No. 2 seed Cuba City (18-3) in a Division 3 regional championship Thursday.
Division 4 Regional Semifinals
Juda 3, Pecatonica 0
JUDA - Junior Amber Ramos scored a run, drove in a run, and fanned 14 batters to lead No. 1 seed Juda to a 3-0 win over the fifth-seeded Pecatonica Vikings in a Division 4 regional semifinal Tuesday.
Juda scored the only run it needed in the first inning off Pecatonica sophomore Cora Demler. Senior Aly Pierce singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI single by Ramos.
The Panthers got two more insurance runs in the third inning as Ramos reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a triple by junior C.J. Dunwiddie. Senior Megan Trotter then drove in Ramos.
Trotter went 2 for 3 with a double and junior Kaitlyn DeVoe was 2 for 4 to lead the Panthers.
Ramos was nearly unhittable as she allowed just one hit and walked one batter in leading the Panthers to their eighth shutout of the season and fourth in their last five games. Demler struck out one and walked one as the Vikings closed their season with a record of 6-17.
"We played a good game," Juda head coach Bill Davis said. "We hit the ball hard. C.J. (Dunwiddie) did a good job at third base. She made several great plays defensively."
Juda (17-4) will host Six Rivers East Conference runner-up Barneveld (18-6) in the regional championship Thursday. Barneveld, the No. 2 seed, defeated Monticello 2-0 Tuesday.
