BOYS:: Knights win Benton tourney

BENTON - New Glarus claimed the championship of the Mike Alexander Holiday Tournament with a 44-38 win over Southwestern Tuesday.

The Knights fell behind, 30-24, at the outset of the fourth quarter, but rallied to tie the game at 36-36.

With 1:09 remaining, sophomore Tyler Kreklow put New Glarus ahead with a 3-pointer.

Senior Ryan Bright led the Glarner Knights with 14 points, while Kreklow and senior Nick Stuessy added nine points each.

New Glarus (7-1) will face Belleville Tuesday in the WBCA Holiday Classic at UW Fieldhouse, Madison.

Darlington 64, Dodgeville 51

DARLINGTON - The Redbirds (8-0) are off to their best start since 2007.

Darlington trailed 15-10 after the first quarter, but outscored the Dodgers 23-10 in the second quarter to race out to a 33-25 halftime lead.

Junior Alex Erickson was held to just 10 points, but senior Tanner Havens and junior Tucker Wiegel powered the Redbirds' offense with 18 points each. Senior Colton Carpenter added 11 points for Darlington.

The Redbirds travel to Blanchardville Wednesday to face the Pecatonica Vikings in another non-conference game.

Albany 54, Johnson Creek 39

JOHNSON CREEK - The Comets grabbed an 18-point first-half lead and rolled over Johnson Creek.

Senior Bryce Hulbert led Albany (3-5, 1-3 Six Rivers East) with 17 points and junior Boomer Detra scored 16 points.

"We played a nice first half," Albany head coach Derik Doescher said. "It was a good win on the road for us before Christmas. They (Johnson Creek) are in our regional, so that helps."

The Comets will play another non-conference game, Tuesday, when they host Brodhead.

Beloit Turner 50, Juda 37

JUDA - A shaky first quarter spelled doom for the Panthers.

Juda could not overcome a 12-5 deficit after the first quarter and saw their record fall to 2-5 (1-3 Six Rivers East).

The Panthers were lead by sophomore Joey Jordan with 13 points.

The Panthers will take on Montello, Tuesday, in the Palmyra-Eagle Tournament.
