WATERLOO - The Monroe boys track and field team put on a dominant display at the Waterloo Invitational Thursday.
Out of 46 medalist positions, Monroe took 21, and as a team ran away with the meet with 212 1/2 points, 43 points better than second-place Mayville with 169 1/2 points.
The Cheesemakers had seven event winners led by the 3,200-meter relay team of Matt Bush, Luke Peterson, Skyler Stingley and Dylan Starck turning in a sparkling time of 8:22.9.
"Our guys really competed well," said Monroe head coach Dave Hirsbrunner. "We really loaded our relays. We really wanted to win those. Our 3,200 relay ran a state top 10 time."
The 800 relay team of Alex Bartlett, Caleb Ahrens, Lucas Goetz, and Mason Goff took first place in 1:35.6, and the 400 relay team of Jeffrey Hill, Bartlett, Goetz, and Goff ran to a first-place finish in 46.0 seconds. Bartlett was also victorious in the 200-meter dash (23.5 seconds).
Other event winners included Joel Henry in the 1,600-meter run (4:44.8), Michael Barrett in the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches) and Michael Kohn in the shot put (47-3).
Hirsbrunner said he liked what he saw in the field events.
"Our throwers threw really well tonight. Overall, of our 21 medalists, 14 had personal records."
Monroe's next meet is Tuesday at Stoughton where they will face Fort Atkinson and Stoughton.
