MONONA - Monroe's Jeffrey Hill took third place in the pole vault at Friday's Monona Grove Boys Invitational, a track and field meet that features 23 of the best teams in the state.
Hill flung himself over the bar at 13-feet, 6 inches, tying Deerfield's Garrett Miles for second place.
As a team, the Cheesemakers finished 18th. Stevens Point won the meet, edging Kenosha Bradford by three points.
Jordan Steurer took 16th in the 1,000-meter dash for Monroe, finishing with a time of 2 minutes, 57.54 seconds. Teammate Steve Christiansen was 17th in the 1,600 (4:51.64) and A.J. Cifuentes was 17th in the 3,200 (11:12.79).
Caleb Ahrens was third in the preliminary round of the 110 hurdles, running a 15.69. Ahrens advanced all the way to the finals, where he finished fifth with a time of 15.56 seconds.
Monroe's 400-relay team of Alex Bartlett, Mason Goff, Hill and Lucas Goetz took 14th with a time of 46.15 seconds. Bartlett, Goff, Goetz and Ahrens ran the 800-relay, taking ninth (1:34.92), three seconds behind the top-place-finishing Racine Park. Matt Bush, Joel Henry, Skyler Stingley and Dylan Starck finished sixth in the 3,200-relay (8:23.09).
Nick Walker took 12th in the shot put with a toss of 44-feet, 7 1/4 inches. Walker also finished 10th in the discus (133-2).
