MONTICELLO - The Ponies are running at full stride.

Led by D.J. McGowan's 15 points, Monticello burst past Barneveld at home for a 68-55 victory Friday night, keeping them in a tie with Black Hawk a top the Six Rivers East standings.

The lefty connection of Brandon Holz and Jacob Edge added 12 and 10 points, respectively, in a victory that saw the Ponies (10-4, 8-1 Six Rivers East) hold off an Eagles (9-5, 5-4) run that cut the deficit to six with a minute to play in the third quarter.

Monticello put its foot back on the gas and didn't trail by less than 10 after the early stages of the fourth quarter. Nine different Ponies scored in the victory, as the team will host Pecatonica next Thursday night.

Black Hawk 60,

Albany 52

Albany's Tyler Bauman made sure Joey Hartwig didn't eclipse the Comets in Black Hawk's victory at home Friday night.

Both post players were steady as a drumroll in putting up 21 points in the Six Rivers East contest in South Wayne.

Albany (1-11, 0-7 Six Rivers East) led by merely two points at the break, 30-28, but a 12-4 third quarter during which Hartwig dropped in seven points built an insurmauntable lead.

Hartwig and Bauman both scored at least two pints in every quarter. Hartwig added 14 rebounds, three of them offensive.

The Warriors travel to Juda Thursday while the Comets travel to Barneveld.

Pecatonica 36,

Argyle 24

It wasn't pretty, but the Vikings found the shore safely.

Kaleb Feller had a game-high 14 points as Pecatonica (7-5, 5-4 Six Rivers East) scored just enough in its 36-24 home victory over neighboring Argyle.

Neither team hit a 3-pointer in the grinder that boasted a 13-8 score at halftime.

Kevin Berg had 11 points to lead the Orioles (3-11, 1-8) who will play at Belmont in a non-conference game Monday.

Marshall 64,

New Glarus 53

The Glarner Knights got a lesson on how quickly a third quarter can change a game's complexion.

New Glarus (5-7, 2-4 Capitol South) turned a 24-20 halftime deficit into a 36-30 lead with a 9-2 run, but Marshall turned the tides with some clutch shots and won 64-53 Capitol South tilt at home.

"We came out shooting real well," New Glarus head coach Travis Sysko said. "(But) it's didn't go our way in the third quarter."

Marshall's Alex Keller had nine of his 13 points in the decisive third quarter that kept the Cardinals (7-3, 6-0 Capitol South) undefeated in conference play.

Cuba City 77,

Darlington 68

The triples were falling for the Redbirds, but it wasn't enough to defeat the Cubans.

Darlington buried six 3-pointers, but Cuba City used a 20-10 second quarter in a 77-68 victory at UW-Platteville.

Kyle Calvert hit three 3-pointers and Mitchell Erickson scored 18 points to lead the Redbirds in a losing effort.

Darlington heads to Highland for a non-conference game Monday night.
