Blaze fourth-graders roll to 5-0

MONROE - The Blaze fourth-graders improved their football record to 5-0 with a 39-0 win over St. Francis on Saturday at the Green County YMCA. Carter Sawdey rushed for 165 yards and three touchdowns. Alex Tordoff added 71 yards on five carries and scored a touchdown. The fourth-graders completed their first pass of the year when Tyler Elmer hit Cole Murray for a PAT.

The defense held St. Frances to one total yard and one first down. Blaze coaches cited Jake Kind, Cole Murray, Kendall Paulson, Hunter Weckerly and Kyle Walker for their defensive play.

FIFTH GRADE (1-4)

Blaze 5th graders lost 27-0 to St. Francis Orange on Saturday at Monroe High School.

SIXTH GRADE (3-1-1)

The sixth-grade Blaze defeated St. Francis Black 32-0 on Saturday at the Green County YMCA. The line of scrimmage was dominated by the Blaze again on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

Heath Butler started the scoring with a 24-yard run in the first period. On the next series, Cody Wolf scored on a 43-yard catch and run from Jacob Flannery.

In the second quarter, Matt Siegel scored on a 38-yard run. Butler finished off the scoring on a 9-yard run in the third period. Sean Saxby finished the day 4-for-4 on extra point kicks, each worth two points, making the final score 32-0.

The Blaze rushed for 202 net yards on 30 carries and completed one pass in three attempts for a touchdown and an interception. St. Francis ran for 15 yards on 27 carries and completed two passes in six attempts for 45 yards. The Blaze recovered four fumbles, but gave away two fumbles in the game.

The Blaze next plays at home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday against Eastside Teal.

SEVENTH GRADE (4-1)

The Monroe seventh-grade Blaze football team won its fourth consecutive game last Saturday by beating visiting Madison Warner Park 18-0. Jake Hirsbrunner, Blake Duffy and Seth Butler each had a touchdown for the Blaze.

The Blaze had many more opportunities to score, but costly errors, penalties and turnovers stopped their chances to put up more points.

The Blaze defense was lead by Ryan Hughes, Kyle Olson, Seth Butler, Charlie Kind, Noah Thompson, Eric Timm, Jake Trickel, Grant Keith, Tony Sink, Landon Baumgartner, Justin Blum, Blake Foesch, Brett Zimmerman, Mike Graham, Billy Breault, Ian Wells, Blake Bast, Troy Gorr, Ethan Moehn, Conner White, Duffy and Hirsbrunner.

The Blaze look forward to next week when they travel to Barneveld to take on Mount Horeb for a noon matchup.

EIGHTH GRADE WHITE (2-1-2)

On Saturday, Oct. 4, Monroe Blaze eighth grade White was defeated 30-12 by Madison Spartan Green.

Offensive leaders were Alex Barenklau with nine carries for 110 yards, Cory Flannery had eight carries for 63 yards, and Kory Costa had a catch for 71 yards.

The defense was lead by Bryan Schroeder, Jason Hiatt and Flannery. The eighth-grade Blaze White play their last home game at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Green County YMCA.

EIGHTH GRADE RED (3-2)

The Blaze eighth grade Red defeated Stoughton White 17-0 Saturday at Monroe High School. Blaze Red had 236 yards of offense, with James Frankowski rushing for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Aaron Hesgard had 67 yards rushing, Kevin Klopfenstein had 11 yards, and Trent Wyssbrod and Payton Hoesley each had five yards rushing.

Receiving leaders were Trent Wyssbrod with 17 yards, Connor Wahl with 15 yards and Ryan Erickson with eight yards. Caleb Pagel threw for 32 yards and Ben Murray added 12 more yards through the air. Defensive leaders were Trent Wyssbrod with seven tackles; Robby Ambrose with five tackles, one fumble recovery and one interception; Ryan Erickson with three tackles and one sack; Kevin Klopfenstein with three; Ed Hille with two; Ben Murray one tackle and one interception; Joe Latimer one sack; and Ethan Adkins with four assists.

The offensive and defensive lines played a big part in the win.

The next game is at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Middleton.
