BENTON - Black Hawk senior Merik Meythaler threw four touchdowns to lead the Warriors to a 40-14 win over Benton-Scales Mound on Saturday.

Meythaler was 10 of 15 passing for 188 yards. He hooked up with Tanner Sweeney on a 52-yard TD pass in the first quarter. Senior Logan Stietz had a 1-yard TD run and Meythaler tossed a 12-yard TD pass to Tyler Peterson. Meythaler connected with Kyle Walters on a 19-yard TD pass to give the Warriors a 27-14 halftime lead.

In the second half, Meythaler tossed a 3-yard TD pass to Cory Rupnow and Jayden Rufenacht had a 18-yard TD run. Sweeney ran for 91 yards on 11 carries and Walters had three receptions for 59 yards.

"Offensively, we did a nice job," Black Hawk coach Cory Milz said. "Benton brought a lot of guys up to the box to stop the running game. Merik threw the ball well and the receivers ran good routes. It's nice to see when we have to put the ball in the air, we can have that in our attack. We were very balanced."

The Warriors' defense forced four turnovers (three interceptions and one fumble). The Warriors did give up a couple of big passing plays. With the win, Black Hawk improves to 3-2.

"Defensively, we are still a work in progress," Milz said. "We had some guys out of position and fell asleep. We have to firm that up if we are going to be a playoff team."
