DURAND - Black Hawk junior Jen Wellnitz had a triple double with a game-high 27 points, 12 rebounds and 14 steals to propel the Warriors to a 50-46 non-conference win over Durand Saturday.
"Jen found a way to score," Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan said. "Her athleticism was on display."
Black Hawk (7-4, 3-1 Six Rivers East) jumped out to a 16-7 lead in the first quarter, but led by just five at the half. Durand made three of its six 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to stay within striking distance.
"They had quick releases and a fearlessness," Flanagan said. "They were really able to hit some clutch shots every time we threatened to pull away."
Black Hawk junior Michelle Flanagan and junior Olivia Holland combined made 6 of 7 free throws in the fourth quarter to help the Warriors seal the victory. Flanagan scored 12 points and Holland added nine.
"That was big," Mike Flanagan said.
Black Hawk is at Pecatonica on Tuesday and at Argyle on Thursday.
"It's a big week for us in the conference race," Flanagan said.
Flanagan said he hopes to have Abby Schiferl back to play against Pecatonica. Schiferl has missed a few games due to an ankle injury.
