Thomas Abraham Osterday

Thomas Abraham Osterday, affectionately known as Tom, passed away on August 2, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born in Darlington, Wisconsin, on May 19, 1940, to Kermit and Ruth (Pattinson) Osterday. He married the love of his life Suzanne "Suzi" (Goodell), on August 11, 1962.

Tom completed his high school education at Darlington High School in 1958. His academic journey continued at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, culminating in a Master's degree from Murray State University. Tom's passion for education extended beyond his own studies, leading him to start his teaching career in 1962 in Carpentersville, IL. He returned to his hometown and served the Darlington School District with an unwavering commitment to teaching until his retirement. He was a proud teacher and coach, touching countless lives throughout his celebrated career.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard Osterday. He is survived by his beloved wife, Suzi; his son Tim (Kristin) Osterday, Darlington; his daughter Kristin (Tim) Staver, Mineral Point; his daughter Alea (Matt) Lindsey, Mineral Point; his brother Don (Dianne) Osterday, Darlington; and his sister-in-law Vicki (Bill) Whitford, Darlington. He was a doting Poppy to seven grandchildren: Delaney (Andy), Tyler, Sy, Sydney, Isaac, Mallory, and Eli, and a loving uncle to Danielle, Denise, Nick, and Dan. He cherished his role as a grandfather and uncle, especially cheering on his grandchildren and great-nieces and nephews at their athletic events.

Beyond his family and career, Tom was deeply interested in history, especially the history of Wisconsin and his adored hometown of Darlington. He was an active member of the Yellow Stone Flint and Cap Club, where he shared his knowledge and enthusiasm with fellow history buffs. He was a pillar in his community as well as a published author. His love for nature and the outdoors was evident in his cabin on the Pecatonica that he built with his brother, Donny. This cabin was Tom's treasured retreat for both solitude and family celebration.

Tom's life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and hard work. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, students, teams, and all those whose lives he touched. He was the ultimate Redbird!
