Shirley A. Brunkow, age 77, of Monroe, died on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at SSM Monroe Hospice Home. Shirley was born on January 1, 1946 in Monroe, the daughter of William and Della (Nickel) Brunkow. She graduated from Monroe High School and earned a degree in data processing from Madison Area Technical College. Shirley worked for many years as a grocery store cashier in Monroe where she loved visiting with customers and made many friends. She was a trivia expert, loved animals, viewing Bald Eagle Cams, and in her years enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by nieces, Virginia (William) Diebold of Cross Plains, WI, Sue Timblin of Cameron, WI; nephew, William (Lori) Bowman of Reedsburg, WI; and many loved great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Viola Bowman, Evelyn Brunkow; brother, Warren Brunkow; two nephews, Ben and Jon; and the love of her life, John Callahan.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the Monroe United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Meyer officiating. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorials are suggested in Shirley’s name to the Monroe UMC or Green County Humane Society.
