Ruth E. Pintar, age 87 of Monroe, died July 18, 2018. She was born April 16, 1931 in Monroe, the daughter of Elmer and Hulda (Hanny) Foulker. She lived the first 16 years of her life on a farm south of Browntown. She attended Watson School and Monroe High School, graduating in 1947.

She worked for a year at the Monroe Evening Times before enrolling at Marquette University. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 1952. She married Louis W. Pintar on August 30, 1952, in Milwaukee. They made their home in Brooklyn, NY for 16 years. Ruth was an editorial secretary at B.C. Forbes and Sons Publishing Co. until she left to raise her family. 

Daughters Mary, Elisa, and Kathryn and son Steve were all born during the New York years. Ruth did a variety of freelance work from home. She published about a dozen short stories in various magazines, most of them written in collaboration with her husband. The family returned to Wisconsin, settling in Monroe, in 1968. 

Ruth returned to work when all the children were enrolled in school. She worked at the Monroe Evening Times for several years, then at Moore Business Forms for more than 20 years. She also wrote a children’s book and a history of the Browntown area for the 1995 Browntown Centennial.

She belonged at one time to the Council for Wisconsin Writers and the Society of Children’s Book Writers, as well as the Monroe Stamp and Post Card Club, Friends of the Library and the Green County Historical Society. She enjoyed reading, gardening, writing, watching old movies, and spending time with her family. 

She is survived by her four children, Mary Koenig, Monroe; Elisa DeBoer, St. Louis; Kathryn Silvestre, Milwaukee and Steve Pintar, Madison, as well as five grandchildren, Brian (Andrea) Koenig, Jon Koenig, Jack Wandfluh, Joe (Carrie) DeBoer and Minda Silvestre, and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis in 2010, her sister Marian and her parents.
