Kathryn “Kay” Deprez, age 75 of Monroe died Friday August 3, 2018. She passed peacefully and was surrounded by her family.
Kay loved stories because stories meant adventure, laughter, and family. Her story began on March 29th, 1943 in Dubuque, Iowa as the daughter of Leo and Alvena Addabbo. She grew up in Galena, where her family operated a corner grocery store. Upon graduating Galena High School in 1961, Kay transferred to U.W. Platteville where she met Tom Deprez. As their story grew together, she attended the Harper Method School of Cosmetology. On November 21, 1964 Kay and Tom married. Their laughter and light spread and followed them both through their careers and interests. Kay worked as a beautician, clerk and union representative at Eagle Foods, and was on the original staff for the Red Apple where she worked for 33 years as hostess and head waitress. Every fall you could hear her passionately critique her favorite football team in which she held stock—the Green Bay Packers. While her most provocative past time was dobbing numbers (bingo) and battling the one armed bandit (slot machines), Kay loved to entertain, and play cards with her family and friends. She had the longest winning streak of anyone. She also enjoyed traveling through all 50 states, various countries, and had more stories to tell than this spot has room.
Kay was a strong, enthusiastic woman who met every challenge with courage and grace. Her appetite for travel, laughter, and love is survived by her greatest joy—her family. Her loving husband Thomas Deprez of Monroe, her children: Jennifer (Gary) Hendrickson of Monroe, Kristine (Ken) Jones of Atlanta, GA, Kathleen Deprez-Hall of Irmo, SC, Richard (Chandra) Deprez of Monroe, Jessica (Kevin) Deprez-Brown of Orangevale, CA, her beloved 10 grandchildren, her brother Dominic (Irene) Addabbo of Phoenix, AZ and her sister Theresa Kaiser of Libertyville, IL. In Heaven she will join her parents, 3 brothers: Leo Jr., John, and William, and 2 sisters: Mariann Addabbo, and Rosalie in infancy.
A visitation was Tuesday, August 7th from 4:00 to 7:00pm at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, August 8th, 2018 at St. Claire of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church with Monsignor Larry Bakke presiding. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
