Joyce Foley, age 83, of Monroe passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Pleasant View Nursing Home.  She was born the daughter of Lyle and Violet (Sigafus) Hammer on January 22, 1940 in Apple River, Illinois.  She graduated from Blackhawk High School in South Wayne.  Joyce married Robert Foley on October 25, 1958. 

Joyce dairy farmed with her husband for many years.  She was an active member in several farming organizations including NFO (National Farm Organization) and was a trustee for Ag Price Marketing Agency.  She was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor’s Catholic Church, and a Red Cross volunteer following Hurricane Katrina.  She enjoyed sewing, learning about Native American history, and watching old westerns and war documentaries.  She enjoyed nature, and loved living in the country where she could observe nature up close.  She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed reading about history. Joyce also liked doing crafts and going to craft shows.

Joyce is survived by her children: Julie Foley – Darlington, Jackie (Geoff) McCorquodale – Florida, Steve (Shari) Foley – Janesville, Karen Foley (Todd Metz) - Orangeville Ill, and Tom (Brenda) Foley – Monroe;  grandchildren; Sarah (Curt) Yaun, David (Cassie) Pink, Adam Pinnow, Elisabeth (Mike) Becker, Janice Perez, Jennifer (Luis) Guzman, Geoffrey (Josie) McCorquodale, Syndi Foley, Jack Foley, Kristi (Ryan) Wuthrich, Lynn (Mike) Leahy, Jerid (Nick Somer) Dickman, Bonita Dickman, Leeza Foley, Lez’lee Foley, McKenzy (Alexis) Foley, and Dempzy (Meredith Hose) Foley; sisters, Marlene Zimmerman and Deborah Hammer; brother, Lyle “Dean” Hammer; sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Jerry) Hill, and Marylin Schuler, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 more due in September, and 1 great-great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughter, Bonita “Bonnie” Hughes; sisters-in-law, Janet Quirk and Kathleen Foley; parents, Lyle and Violet Hammer; mother and father in-law, Enright and Estella Foley, and grandson-in-law, Jose Perez.

A prayer service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home with Father Tafadzwa Kushamba as celebrant. Burial will follow service in Calvary Cemetery in Monroe.
