Joanne Ruth McLelland passed away in peace on October 26, 2018, in Sarasota, Florida, at the age of 83. Born October 7, 1935, daughter of Richard and Ruth (Bissig) Smith, she was the oldest of three children.
Joanne grew up on the Smith Family farm near Monticello. She lived in Monroe for 30 years until 1980 when the family moved to Sarasota, Florida. She enjoyed attending spring training baseball, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, going to flea markets and garage sales, working in her yard, and took extreme pride in keeping a warm and well decorated home.
Joanne was a proud farm girl, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John W. McLelland of Sarasota, FL; children Michael A. Ethridge (Diane) of Green Bay, WI, Steven R. Ethridge (Jennifer) of Austin, TX, Jody A. Keister (Donald) of Sarasota, FL, and John R. McLelland (Randi) of Sarasota, FL; brother Richard R. Smith of Monticello, WI, and sister Deby Smith of Beloit, WI. She had the joy of being Grandma Jo to seven grandchildren and one great grandson. She was aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Kenneth Smith of Prescott, AZ.
A small, private ceremony will be held in the spring on the Smith Family farm, a place of many happy memories for Joanne. Memorials in her name can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and/or the Alzheimer's Association.
